Very interesting menu, lots of creative seafood selections, outside screened in dining area right on the river, and nice indoor dining room. Go for "grouper therapy"...very clever!

During a two night stay in Apalachicola we ate here on a Sunday night. In Februrary, a number of other possible choices were not open for Sunday dinner, examples being Papa Joe's or Owl Cafe. We ate at Up The Creek on Saturday night, so we tried Carolines on Sunday night.

The restaurant was not crowded, and service times were good.

The interior seemed a little "dark and dated" to us.

After being seated we learned they were completely out of Grouper - as many (maybe 50%) of their entrees featured grouper - this therefore severly limited our entree choices.

We did order some scallops and oysters, and they were both good.

Our server was "OK", but not exactly the best we have ever had. She seemed a bit tired or worn out, saying it had been a busy weekend.

Although the menu was a bit fancier than "Up the Creek", due to the overall atmosphere of Carolines, lack of an enthusiastic server, and "out of grouper", we enjoyed our visit to "up the creek" more than we did Carolines - in fact, after eating at Carolines we stopped by Up The Creek for "pie to go" (see our review there)

Apalachicola is an isolated, wonderful seaport town. Like many isolated wonderful seaport towns in Florida many restaurants are closed on Sundays. Caroline's is closed each year on Christmas day. If you honor us with a visit on Sunday we want to serve you. Your server was our waitstaff manager Angela. During the winter months December-February the staff like any other business during that time can be sparse and Angela could have been tired or like we say she could "have had it." We are proud and thankful to have Angela work with us and she has for over 15 years. Caroline's is a fresh seafood restaurant. On our menu we stress that our grouper is fresh never frozen and we mean it. On a rare occasion on a Sunday during the slow and windy winter months we may run out of fresh grouper. This is also the mating season for many species of fish in the Gulf and certain locations are closed for fishing during that time. If we are out of fresh grouper at Caroline's or the Boss Oyster we do not serve grouper. We will not have some frozen grouper on hand for such occasions. We are sorry that we were out of fresh grouper during your visit. Please dine with us again after all you said our food was good Respectfully Caroline Maddren

Didn't have dinner as we were too full yet from lunch. The place was clean and elegant. The choices were great.

If you stay in their Inn, breakfast is included...but beware.... a limited menu.
The morning was kind of cool so all the tables inside were busy. Call ahead so you can reserve a table by the water. Service is good, albeit slow......enjoy the surroundings. The biscuits are HUGE. And don't order the red-eye gravy unless you know what it is.

Loved dining on the porch with our dog. Raw Oysters $9 for a dozen was the best deal. Fresh and delicious. Good omelet. I asked for 'light' on the onions, and I think she thought I said 'lot' of onions. And it took a bit to get a hostess to seat us (maybe 10 mins during a very slow time), but we were happy with the food and loved the atmosphere.
