the only thing missing was a sizable coffee table in the living room; hardly a deal breaker. Would definitely stay here again.

I had a chance to stay here for several nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. To be fair, the Inn is actually on the main street passing through town, not a sand bar on the beach (the home page of their website is an artistic rendering).

There are a few drawbacks to this place that you would find in any old house: water pressure was so-so; there is lots of noise--there is traffic & big trucks going down the street that sometimes even rattled the window panes. In the main house I could hear every sound: creaking floorboards & stairs, other rooms talking, even the buttons beeping on the credit card machine at the desk--so if you are a very light sleeper this may not be for you. There are no elevators, so if you have mobility issues you'd want a first floor room, they do have a wheelchair ramp. The website says they have a few child-friendly rooms, but given the antiques & decor I would not take kids there--plus, my son would be afraid to sleep with all the old oil paintings watching him.

Having said that, I LOVED the Coombs & would DEFINITELY stay here again. The main house is a special place, with an air of mystery & discovery around every corner. There are huge live oak trees out front dripping with Spanish moss and ferns. The staff was very helpful & gave me some sightseeing ideas that made my trip. The bed had fluffy down comforters, heavenly cotton sheets & was maybe the most comfortable i've ever slept in (which says alot!). WiFi speed was great. They have bicycles, beach towels, chairs & umbrellas to borrow. There is good coffee in the breakfast room daily, & also Starbucks in each room. There is a great wrap-around porch with comfy furniture for sitting.

I loved this place, & wished I could have stayed there alot longer!

The Coombs Inn is one of the best of its kind. A lovely old home turned welcoming Inn. The room with access to veranda was perfect for a Florida stay. The Inn's location is a perfect little walk to the main shopping/dining area of Apalachicola and that town is full of things to do and see. We enjoyed the breakfast and afternoon cookie servings. The use of bicyles, beach chairs, and towels was very much appreciated. We'd stay again.

I'm not a travel guide writer, but if I was writing a book about the best B & B's, Coombs Inn would be chapter 1, page 1. Value, food, friendlyness, location, peace and quiet, etc. etc... I could go on and on.

My wife and I will return!

I decided to take my daughter for a getaway between semesters at college for some quiet mom/daughter time. The inn is impeccably furnished - not just all antiques - very classy. The service was superb - the innkeep even gave us bathsalts for a soak in the claw foot tub! We ate a wonderful breakfast and rode our bikes around the neighborhood looking at all the restored Victorian mansions, and picturesque waterfront. We even took a day trip over to St George Island and ate some oysters at the beachfront restaurant The Blue Parrot. The shopping downtown was upscale for a smaller community, and we had a terrific lunch at the Owl Cafe on recommendation from a friend. All in all a restful relaxing weekend!

The Coombs House Inn offered one of the very best trips we have ever had. The service was impeccable, and the staff went out of their way to ensure that we would enjoy the best restaurants in town and experience the true flavor of this historic region of Florida. We were greeted with such warmth and hospitality that we felt like we were part of the family!

We stayed at the Coombs House Inn for two nights in May 2009. The house is really a home. Beautifully restored and decorated with period furniture. The Breakfast was wonderful and one morning my husband wanted something beside what was being served and it was promply accomodated. The town is not much to see but the two state parks, St George & St. Joseph offer beautiful white sandy beaches and solitude.
I would definitely recommend staying at the Coombs House Inn if you are planning a visit to the area.
