“Charming B&B”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2012

This B&B is located in a great location, walking distance to good restaurants and shops. The staff was very helpful. Parking is convenient. There is a bit of traffic noise since the home is on the main road into town, but traffic dies down in the late evening, so it is not too bad. The rooms share temperature controls, but the staff were helpful adjusting the temperature to accomadate my needs.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay in Apalachicola on my way down to Pensacola for a family reunion--I drove down from Charleston, SC (about 6 1/2 hour drive) and he met me from Pensacola (about 3 1/2 hr drive). He did all the research and the day before told me he found the perfect space that would accommodate us and my 12 lb shitzu, Bindi (there's a $25 pet fee which was reasonable and very convenient to keep her with us for the night versus boarding her).

I was pleasantly surprised once I arrived around 5 on a Friday. The buildings are beautiful, the location is convenient to stores and restaurants and the grounds are well manicured. It’s a small town but if you're visiting the area, this place is perfect.

We stayed in the Jasmine Room which has a separate entrance-way from the main house off the porch. It was very clean and comfortable-the linens were crisp, the air was fresh and it felt cozy.

They allowed us a later check out the next day (1pm) and we took the time to ride their yellow bikes (complimentary) around the town area and check out the sites during the day before leaving. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The breakfast (vegetable and ham) casserole, pastries and the Starbucks coffee were great.

We spent less than $200 for a great room (including the $25 fee for small pet) and felt it was well worth it--especially with complimentary happy hour, breakfast and use of bikes.

I would recommend the Coombs House Inn for sure!

From start to finish our stay in the Osprey Room was a marvelous experience. The inn had a wedding going on the weekend we stayed and I expected the staff to be less than attentive, but I was wrong. We were greeted by all the staff and any requests were accomodated as if we were their only guests.

The wine and cheese hour before we went to dinner gave us the opportunity to meet other guests and the owner even took time to come to it to let us know the history of the town and the inn.

Everything was clean, well equipped and the breakfast was delicious.

I am already planning a return trip.

Room Tip: Lots of steps, so if you have issues with stairs, ask for a room on the first floor. We were also h...

My husband took me on a surprise weekend get-away to Apalachicola and the Coombs House Inn. After a stressful week, it was a very welcome trip! Coombs Inn was amazing! We stayed in the Villas; the room was small, but very adequate. We loved the quaintness! The breakfasts were wonderful, the cookies midday were yummy. And no matter what we were doing that weekend, we made sure that we attended the 6-7PM wine reception! Innkeeper Maria and her husband Keith told us many stories of the history of the inn as well as the town. The night we heard stories of the ghost sightings, I was positive I heard things! :-) Maria & Keith also recommended restaurants and things to do in the area. We were not disappointed! We spent a day on the beach of St. George Island, we borrowed bikes to ride around the town. It was all a magical & delightful experience! Thank you!

This is a great place to stay, if you are looking to enjoy some time in Apalachicola or the surrounding area. Our room, the Wilson room, was magnificent and spacious. Additionally, we could not have been made more welcome by the staff.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary with family and friend. The Cloister Suite was a wonderful size space for the price. Apparently the structure was a duplex that was converted into 4 one bedroom suites without updating the plumbing because there was a lingering sewer gas stench through out the unit. A few other problems, no reliable internet connection, unable to control the A/C because the control was in another unit had to open doors and windows to mange the temp and sewer gas in the suite otherwise Smelly and FREEZING!. One of the circuit breakers kicked and we lost power to half the unit, call maintenance to reset breaker located in another unit. now, for the good stuff... Parking, beach equipment was supplied, bikes, and BREAKFAST was fabulous Maria, Emily and staff were sweet. I would stay again in difference suite because the location was perfect everything was walking distance. The art shops, antiques shops in the historic district is truly amazing. The kids couldn't get enough of the great beaches (driving required) nearby. This area is a hidden gem. If your looking to being spoiled and catered to this is not the place.. Love that it was gay friendly....

Room Tip: The Suites and second floor villas are probably the best....

My husband and I took an unexpected little vacation to Apalachicola and came across the Coombs Inn during some online research. We absolutely loved it! The location was perfect to be able to walk into the main part of town. It had so much warmth and charm. Maria and Estelle really made us feel so welcome and were so helpful with pointing us in the right direction with what to do and where to eat. We stayed in a different room both nights because we wanted to experience something different. Both were extremely clean and comfortable. In the heat of summer the air conditioning worked wonderfully which is a huge plus! Breakfast each morning was really delicious and we loved the wine and cheese hour in the afternoon. It was wonderful to get to know the other guests and really gave us that B&B feel. They also had bikes for us to use which was a wonderful way to see the town. Overall it was a great trip and we will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: The lower level can be a little nosier but we kinda like that. It adds to the experience of staying...
