“The good and the not-so-good”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We recently ate here for the first time, after having it recommended to us by a couple of locals. They were spot-on in their comments about the place-- ultra casual, great view, and good food in a small historic building out on the water. The not-so-good comments included a heads-up about some of the wait staff and 1-2 hour waits at peak times. We did wait for well over an hour for a table for 6, followed by a long wait for our food. My advice at peak times would be to go at off-times for meals or to go on a day when the weather isn't so great. All of us enjoyed our food, although I'd get the Grouper dinner instead of the sandwich if I ever go back. I love Grouper sandwiches, but unfortunately, the Grouper in this one was overpowered by the large bun. Over all, a good meal in a unique setting, so we'll probably give them another try when we return to AMI next spring.

“Karen you are wonderful”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Had the best evening at the Rod and Reel the restaurant was full so we sat in the bar which is unusual for us. Karen was running the show - What a girl she was fantastic- really on the ball seemed to love her job . Keep hold of this girl and reward her well .We have been customers of this restaurant for almost 20 years and have NEVER seen such an employee-loose her at your peril...Reward her well or she will be snapped up by another ..

“Most underrated restaurant on the island - great food, great people”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

We had two meals here, dinner and breakfast. Erin, the bartender downstairs, was wonderful and provided excellent service. Dinner was fantastic, we both had grouper (2 different ways) and it was outstanding. Kids meals were great as well. Breakfast was also wonderful and you cannot beat the view. Definitely our fave restaurant on the island. Customers were all very friendly and social.

“Great Daily Fresh Seafood Specials”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Visiting AMI for the first time the Rod & Reel Pier was recommended by locals. We went early before the "rush" as we heard they can get busy and it is a smaller venue with approximately 12 tables inside and 6 outside. We wanted to get a window to watch the dolphins and manatees that swim by, and were not disappointed. The waiter was helpful with describing the entrees and giving suggestions. We opted for several of the daily specials and they were excellent!! Coming from Minnesota, we know fresh from frozen when it comes to fish, and this was FRESH. We enjoyed the meal so much that we went back a second time before we left.

“Old School Florida”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Seems to be an old establishment. Eating on the water was great. The host was very friendly fella. The food, service and pricing was average. Will not got back, unless just to drink at the bar.
