“My favourite restaurant worldwide”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

The Rod & Reel Pier is my wife's and my favourite restaurant worldwide. We've stayed in Anna Maria Island 5 times and always make several visits. Somehow they manage to combine a buzzing environment with the tranquility of the sea lapping at the pier, great reasonably priced freshly prepared food, cheap beer, friendly service from real carriers and a view to die for. You must try the onion rings, blackened garlic prawns, blackened chicken and fresh grilled tuna. It's very popular and you can't book, so you often have to wait for a table [at busy times for at least an hour]. If you don't have the patience to wait, then you've missed the point. Whilst waiting, you can hire a fishing rod, or watch the pelicans, other seabirds, starfish, dolphins and manatees [if you are lucky as we were on April 8th]. Oh and there's also a webcam trained on the pier, so you can make your family and friends at home jealous with this amazing place. A meal for 6 with shared starters, mains, shared puddings and drinks cost us around $140

“You'll be happy here”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

We went here twice in two days--breakfast and lunch. Both meals were great. The service is great. The price is right. And the view is unbeatable. All in all, a great experience.

“Great place for breakfast”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Situated at the end of the rod and reel pier, the location offers fantastic views, including stunning sunrises. Check out the webcam online. However, this place has more about it than just the setting. We had breakfast here a couple of times during our stay on Anna Maria island, and the food was great - not fussy, just good honest food. The kids loved the pancakes and maple syrup, and I can recommend the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich which comes with a fruit bowl. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and pelicans catching their breakfast, and watch the fishermen trying to catch theirs. Better still, pack your own rod, pay the 2 dollar fee and have a go yourself. Car park is only small, and it fills up quickly.

“Best little Seafood Spot you can find!”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

First off, forget the menu at dinner. Order off the specials board that is posted as you walk in, or don't complain. Don't get me wrong, the menu is full of fried dishes served throughout the area, and they are at or above par. The reason for the drive to the north end of Anna Maria Island is the specials board...more tuna than you will ever get in a single serving anywhere else. Plus, if you are lucky, they may be serving Hogfish or some other local specialty. I recommend it grilled or very lightly blackened; otherwise, you are not doing it justice. Coconut almond crusting with a side of chipotle glaze is what I say on almost everything else. Don't shy away from the amber jack either; they filet it well and the flavor is great as prepared above. Regardless, the best, I mean absolute best thing you can get and have to try- seafood gumbo. It tops all else in town and everywhere else I've tried. The draft beer is cold and cheep. We try to make it out there every few months as it is our favorite seafood.

“Good opportunity to eat where the locals eat. Cheap beer too!”
Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

We had one grouper platter which was wonderful. It had a light breading and tasted very fresh. The other plate was fried shrimp which was fair. The breading was heavy and dark. The waitress was very nice and helpful. Overall it was a good experience.
