We have enjoy Conestogas everytime we have been there to eat. The kids love the candy shop too. They even had a bowl full of some spare eyeglasses for me when I had lost mine to see the menu with.

Found this by accident in the historical area. Great place with great food. Come early, the crowd gets huge and wait lines.

I had steak which was marinated. It had great flavor but wasn't the best steak I'd ever had, a little fat around the edge (which the dogs gladly scarfed down later so it's probably their favorite steak place!)
Mom had chopped steak smothered with gravy onions and peppers. It was very good.

There was a guy sitting in the window with an amazing looking hamburger complete with blue cheese crumbles on top and thick steak fries.

Ice cream shop is attached so we grabbed a cone to go on our way out.

The service was great and fast, super nice server. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town!

If you find yourself wandering around North Central Florida for a great steak house, the get yourself to Conestogas Restaurant in the quaint downtown of Alachua. The staff is friendly and always go the extra mile. You'll even find the owner, Rick, having a conversation with customers while they are enjoying the food. And after you're done with your dinner & if you have enough room for dessert, go next door to the sweets shop and have a hand-scooped ice cream. A warm and friendly atmosphere!

Great family style restaurant with excellent food and outstanding service. They have regular or Senior portions and both are enough. If the menu says "best bet" then it is just that. I had a Caesar chicken salad that was outstanding and the wife had a pre-race meal of chicken and veggies. Just right with beer and wine. It is a popular spot and really, with the size of main street it can not be missed. Locals as well as visitors. The town was decorated with all kinds of Halloween characters for this coming Oct. 31st. We stayed at the local Econo lodge so my wife could race the 5K Senior Games in Gainsville the next day.

Alachua is a small city just north of Gainesville, Florida. If you go down the pretty, cobblestoned main street, you won't miss the Conestoga Restaurant. There will probably be a crowd outside waiting to get in. Find a place to park and go on in! This restaurant is in an old brick building with the brick exposed inside. You will sit at a table with a bowl of peanuts to munch on while you wait to get started. This is country and American dishes at their best. The burgers are the best I have ever eaten, and country fried steak is more than a mouthful. I would recommend the "Chop" with peppers and onions. A great side would be mashed potatoes and brown gravy or sweet potato fries. You will probably need a takeout box. Enjoy!
