i stayed at Mountain Chalet with my son for 7 days in early FEb 2013. The staff very courteous and helpful from the very beginning. A great postion in the middle of town with only a minutes walk to everywhere you need to go in Aspen. The place reminds me of the old chalet days where groups used to come and mingle and chat after a days skiing. A real throwback to the "good ol days" .
Great , hearty breakfast in the morning and rooms cleaned everyday.
If you want a value place to stay right in the heart of town, look no further.

Room Tip: choose balcony room and away from main street if you want more quiet

We booked on short notice to take advantage of heaviest snowfall this season. MCA helped us find a vacant room for mid-week stay. We have stayed at MCA many times before and always feel like we are personal guests of the owners. MCA is one of those remaining family-run getaways that takes us back to Aspen in the 70's, before the large corporate hotels moved in to build timeshares. Would do whatever we could to influence keeping these mom & pop businesses in downtown Aspen close to the slopes, gondola and free bus terminal.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing East Dean St if you are staying in an apartment on the third or fourth floor, you can see the slopes from there. On East Durant facing Wagner Park (any floor) would be a good choice for singles and doubles. Be sure to take the virtual tour on MCA website to look at the rooms

Tom F, Thank you for the kind review! We're happy we could accommodate you for a quick taste of the great snow recently. And glad you appreciate our vintage appeal and way of doing business. We hope you come back and stay with us again and again.

If you go to Aspen you should consider the Mountain Chalet. It is a friendly, cozy and and extremely well situated Hotel in the center of Aspen. Only 100 m to the Silver Queen Gondola. The Family owned and run hotel makes you feel that you are one of their family. The only downside is the thin coffee but that is a nationwide problem in USA!! The complimentary breakfast is very nice and there is a new dish every morning from the kitchen plus a buffet. A heated garage and a ski storage was a surprise and après ski drinks and all day long coco, coffee, tea and water for the guests was a pleasant surprise. We will not consider any other option after our stay at the Mountain Chalet in Aspen. Asta and Haffi

We haven't visited yet, but we had booked the hotel for Aspen Fashion Week. We were well beyond the time that the deposit was fully due, and then I found out that Aspen Fashion Week had been cancelled, only three weeks before its start date. Steve at Mountain Chalet was very kind about it and refunded my money (minus the credit card fees). I will absolutely book this hotel again and stay there this summer.

The staff at the Mountain Chalet are very welcoming and helpful and it does present a family-run feel. The rooms are comfortable and warm in a very cold February. Breakfast is hearty and the hot choices filling and seconds encouraged. I have only tried the outdoor pool which is warm as toast after a days skiing. The location is perfect, 100 yards from the bus shuttle station to other parts of the Aspen-Snowmass resort and little further from good bars and restaurants let alone the shopping. The building may look a little tired but this should not put you off. Happy to recommend the hotel.
