This should really be a 5/5 review, as we mostly had an excellent evening in the warm, relaxed and friendly surroundings of Brunelleschi, so I will come to the reasons why it is not in a minute. Firstly, let’s point out what makes Brunelleschi’s great and why we would definitely go back next time we are in Aspen.
Go for a Pizza. The Pizzas were a real hit and being able to ‘build’ a gluten-free and tomato free pizza of this quality makes for a rare treat. Even better than the Pizzas are the desserts. There’s plenty of choice and it would seem that they are all amazing (and massive). With Pizzas this good, you will struggle to save space for a huge dessert so just accept the fact that the journey home will be uncomfortable, but ultimately hugely satisfying. Your wallet will be happy too, which is not the norm for Aspen.
So what went wrong? After some minor disappointments over not being able to make the cocktails they claimed (rectified by the quality of the ones they could), the lasagne was a real let down. The promise of plenty of meat was not met. However, if a bucket load of tomato is what you want, then this is the dish for you. But not for me – especially when the rest of the table is raving about the Pizzas. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining because I made the wrong choice; this lasagne simply lacked substance. Sorry Brunelleschi. Otherwise, great Pizzas, great dessert and wonderful service.
