“Great location, potential to make it so much better”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Our family of 4 stayed here for a week in January and overall the stay was 'pretty good'.
Location: The location without a doubt is the best in Aspen. Close to all amenities, Aspen Village and the slopes.
Property: We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and the quality was better than the photos. Modern, quality linen, comfy beds and spacious. Complimentary wifi. One thing that could be done better was when we arrived (and after every room service), the room was cold and all the lights were off. It felt like a cost saving thing and it would have been have much more welcoming to have the fire on and some mood lighting in the rooms.
Service and amenities: This is the area the hotel could do sooo much better. The complimentary shuttle to the slopes was fantastic and we used it a lot. However, it was always late to pick us up in the afternoons and from the airport.. which was frustrating after a long day skiing and a long flight. The ski valet was a nice touch. Housekeeping needs some work. On the first night ( after travelling for 20 hrs) we wanted an early night so put the 'do not disturb' sign on. Housekeeping then proceeded to ring our apartment (and wake us all up) to ask if we wanted a turn down service.. Many other hotels will slip a note under the door for 'turn down' in this instance and this would make much more sense. Breakfast/Apres Ski: The room rate includes complimentary breakfast and hot chocolates/ cookies after skiing. This was dismal. There was no 'real' hot chocolate or coffee and the cookies were very average. The hotel has this great bar area and it is always deserted because there is no atmosphere. The Hyatt could learn a lot from the Little Nell in this area. Hire a barista, buy a coffee machine and have a few staff on hand to pop some fresh cookies in the oven every afternoon and serve drinks in the evening. The staff of the hotel were young, friendly and welcoming. Would we stay again. Probably but would definitely look around as to what other places offer first.

I just stayed at the Hyatt Grand Aspen over new years. The location is wonderful, right downtown. You can walk to restaurants and shopping. With that being said if you have children or someone that is only an intermediate skier or snowboarder you will need to drive 20 min to get to a mountain that they can go on. Ajax mountain is a more advanced run. The hotel does have a shuttle to drop you off and pick you up, but you need to call them at 6 am to reserve a spot on the 8 or 9 am bus. They WILL NOT schedule you the night before. They say they have limited spots and people no show in the morning. I do understand that but if you do not call in time and they are full you will need to pay a hefty cab fee to get you there! Or take the free shuttle that runs. We used this for a lot of the trip and it is really easy to use....
One of my pet peeves with this hotel is that they really seem to have not actual relationships with any of the local restaurants so if you do not book in advance you do not get in. I used my AMEX card to book some of the dinners. The hotel also has no room service. You can order from an outside company but they usually have 1 1/2 hour long wait to get your food to you! The room comes with a full kitchen so you can cook, however after a long day on the snow it is nice not to have to cook. I did ask for a ride to the store because it was 0 degrees outside and since the food delivery was going to take so long I thought that maybe the house car to run me 2 minutes down the road to grab some pasta and juice to cook. They however were busy ( that was the story the whole time we were there). I asked them to call a cab and they called back saying they were all busy and it would take 1/2 hour for one to come. I google a cab company and I had one there in under 3 minutes...... (once again bad service).

Now to the room.
It is spacious, we had a top floor 2 bedroom/ two bathroom. It had a gas fireplace in every room. You could not run it for to long as it is the type to heat a room... The washer and dryer we did not use even though I needed it. The washer smelled like mold...

The master bedroom is 2 twin beds pushed together to make a king which my husband found terribly uncomfortable. The other room we had them make into 2 twin beds. (Which they charged $200 to do.) All they did was take out the attachment and put on the proper bedding.... Shocked they charged for that.

We could not get our room to a comfortable temperature. We even had engineering come up to try to fix the problem. The air hits you on the bed so when it turns on you are freezing and when it turns off you are roasting so it is the lovely game of put the covers on push the covers off all night.... We finally cracked a window and covered up knowing it would get a little chilly but at lease we could sleep...

Also I booked most of my own reservation for dining as I had not a whole lot of luck with them doing it....

I would probably not stay at this hotel again based on the service for sure. I would have had the same level of service had I rented a house or condo with no amenities.

I will be renting a house or trying out the St. Regis or Little Nells next time...

Hyatt you really need to let people know that they are on their own when they stay here.

Room Tip: I would recommend the top floor. You can get a view of Ajax mountain... be carful of the end rooms...

We have stayed at the Hyatt Grand Aspen several times and have always found it to be an excellent facility. It is located at the foot of the main ski area in Aspen overlooking the small village area. Everything is within a short walking distance - great dining, shopping or nightlife. The rooms are all beautiful Rocky Mountain resort styled with top of the line furnishings, and most of the bedrooms are full en-suite master style finished in granite or marble stonework. The balconies provide views of the ski area or the village - we spent Thanksgiving week here and watched the Women's Downhill World Cup Ski Races from the balcony. It is also great in the non-ski season when you can stroll through the John Denver Memorial - take lunch and a bottle of wine to relax along the creek and sit in the midst of a group of large boulders to ponder the magic of the lyrics of Denver's songs that are carved into the boulders. The staff are always friendly and polite. The facilities are perfect to relax outside by the big fire pit, swim in the large pool with two hot pools, or exercise in the fitness room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony view of the ski area and mountain to get the best of your Rocky Mounta...

This is an outstanding resort. The unit has premium furnishings with decorator's touch. Viking kitchen with first rate appliance. Location is excellent-- easy distance to everwhere. Service is perfect. Staff will shuttle guests as needed. Healthy continental breakfast with very good coffee. A perfect placed for a fall vacation to see the leaves.

Room Tip: Ask for 2ndfloor or higher with mountain view

The staff here treat you with much care.
Amenities are first class-from the kitchen to the bath and showers. In fact, there were so many shower heads that my husband said it was like being in a car wash!!
Location is perfect to get around Aspen.
A wonderful time to come and enjoy fall colors.

We enjoyed two nights a this hotel during the recent pro cycle challenge. Location is ideal to downtown Aspen. We were able to walk to multiple restaurants and enjoyed easy access to bike trail on south side of town. The room was small but very nice. Beautiful wood floors, exceptional mattress, wonderful tub and shower. The service was exceptional. Nice pool and hot tubs. Next time I would request room on inner aspect of hotel overlooking pool. Only complaint would be the free breakfast, picked over and not great quality.

Room Tip: Inner room near pool.
