We stopped by the Upper Crust in Aspen (the owners have another location in Basalt, CO) for lunch after a morning birdwatching tour in the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). There was another bagel shop in this space years ago - I wish the current owners more success!
They offer bagels with all kinds of toppings; i chose the chorizo breakfast burrito which was excellent and not too hot for my wimpy palate. my companion had the egg+lox bagel sandwich which as also excellent. I was amused to read a review on another website that described the cafe as "food made by two surly gentlemen who act like they're doing you a favor". This is a basically a deli, run by longtime Aspen folks originally from the east coast - brusque lack of obsequiousness and cracking wise are an essential part of the culture, so i imagine visitors with a limited sense of humor may not get full enjoyment of the cuisine.
