We hiked at Maroon Bells yesterday. Everywhere you looked was picturesque. The morning was crisp, but we wanted to hike up to crater lake. There was snow on the mountains, so we knew we might encounter some snow on our hike. We started up the trail when a family on their way down told us there were moose on the trail. A little ways later, as the trail was starting to get steep, we encountered a family of moose! We climbed up to a high spot off the trail to let them go back down the trail. We climbed back down to the trail and continued on to our destination, Crater Lake. The hike was moderate, but there was a lot of ice, snow, and mud which made it harder. The whole experience was amazing. Pictures can't do the area justice, and I'm sure you've seen the pictures! We have decided to go back another year when the Aspen are at their peak of fall colors.

Ditto to all the rave reviews. I want to add that you need to watch for wildlife photo ops. we have the most marvelous photos of some marmots standing on their hind feet that we took from the car on the drive down the hill. We also saw some on the hike beyond the lake. there are deer and moose as well. Take the easy walk along the lake and on to a lovely waterfall. Very easy and most people will have no trouble at all. Be sure to take some shots back down the lake from the far end. This is a beautiful area for the whole family to enjoy. I suggest you go early so you can take your car in. That way you can take your pictures without too much of a crowd around and get some shots with no people in them. the light is right for the best photos too.

We went near sunset and so it wasn't the best time as the sun blinded us at first from even seeing the mountains, but within 20 minutes, the sun backlit the Maroon Bells and it was a sight I'll never forget. So peaceful and serene.

Pictures can't capture the beauty of the Maroon Bells. Took the hard, but worth it, hike to Crater Lake. This is a must do hike, as the view is astounding. Take the time to visit this amazing place.

My partner and I camped 3 nights at the Silver Queen campground and day hiked this beautiful area. Colorado's most scenic area, indeed!
