Peaceful and tranquil setting after the roar of the snowmobile engines for an hour. Hot apple cider in a spectacular setting while the kids snowballed one another

This ws a very exhausting hike. Not for a beginner. Make sure if you hike in the area to bring more than a day pack in case a snow squall comes up and you get stuck up in the mountains overnight.

I am so glad I made it to this beautiful spot! A group of us went and we first wanted to drive up, but learned that there were restrictions when you could do so. The road is accessible to cars from 5pm to 9am (yeah NOT bankers hours) and there is a $10 fee. We ended up taking the bus from Aspen which was about $3 a person (they had half off fares on the particular day we went)! The driver is also a tour guide and incredibly informative and even entertaining. Taking the bus is nice to do at least once. Unfortunately, we took one of the later buses up there so we didn't have enough time to do anything but a little walking around the vicinity before taking the last bus back down to Aspen.
The mountains and scenery speak for themselves - and evidenced in all the photos and paintings you see of the Bells... The setting is idyllic and the crystal blue alpine lake mesmerizing. I visited on a cool summer day so it was before the leaves started changing, and would love to see fall, winter, and spring in this setting! Bring water, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, and maybe something to munch on if you do end up hiking. And you're set. It is something the entire family can enjoy.

The Maroon Bells never get old. My friend was visiting from England and we drove to the Bells. Everything was covered in snow. It was so beautiful. In summer there are more people and you have to take up a bus. In October it felt like an entirely new place!

Early in the morning, the mountains and the sky reflected off of the lake is breathtaking! Professional photographers come early!
