“Amazing hike, and wonderful springs!”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Great hike in, the wildflowers were all in bloom in mid July! The hot springs are comfortable and warm, and the campsites have been well maintained with the landscape very clean due to strict wilderness rules. We hiked in from the Aspen side 8.5 miles and camped at site 11. It is really busy on the weekends though, and when we go back we'll likely go during the week to avoid the crowds.

“Conundrum Trail”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is by far the most scenic hike I have ever taken! We did this as an out-and-back. The 8.5 mile trail to the hot springs is relatively packed, has its share of loose rocks, and short stretches of scree. Plan to uphill from the start, though the incline is gradual. We passed by ponds, viewed atleast a dozen beaver lodges, crossed the creek many times, walked through forest, aspen groves, meadows, all under clear blue skies. We stayed at the hot springs for about 1 1/2hours (we were alone for 45 minutes!). The hike back seemed long, mostly due to fatigue; it took us just under 4 hours each way. I would recommend a 4wd to get to the trailhead as the uphill dirt road had many pits when we drove it this 3rd weekend in October. Wildlife sightings: a buck, a white weasel, a moose. Rumour has it that 'Rocky Mountain High' was partially written at the Springs. Glorious!!!day.

“great overnight backpacking trip - 8.5 miles to wildflower filled meadows and serene hot springs with glorious view”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

This is a hike that can be done as a shuttle hike from Aspen to Crested Butte or it can be done as an out and back from either location. It is an easier hike starting in Aspen and is about 8.5 miles to the summit, pretty easy if you are in decent shape. You pass beautiful mountain views, a few distant waterfalls, plenty of wildflowers, some dainty ponds, rushing creeks, and at the top of course is the wonderful hot springs. There are a few pools to soak in (around a very comfortable 104 degrees) but the big one is the nicest and it is ringed by rocks. There are gorgeous campsites (6 was our favorite if there is possibly inclement weather or 11 if you want a beautiful wildflower studded site if the weather is clear). Be prepared for rain, also make sure you can suspend your food in a bear proof container and make sure that you PACK OUT all of your garbage and toilet paper...please leave the environment pristine and only leave your footprints, nothing else. If you go during the week there will only be a few folks sharing the hot springs with you, but if you go on the weekend there can be heaps of people - we heard there were 50 people in the hot spring...it is clothing optional as well.
You can only stay for one night, be prepared for snow/rain/hail/lightning.
Enjoy, and remember to pack everything out that you bring in and take bear precautions with your food.
