My fiance and I signed up for a whitewater trip on the class IV Slaughterhouse Falls trip with Aspen Whitewater Rafting (AWR). Unfortunately, that run became too low and the company had to move us to another trip. They gave us several options and ultimately we decided to switch to the "Numbers" class IV trip. Even though this trip was more expensive, AWR did not charge us extra for the switch.
They offered to pick us up at a location closer to our hotel in Snowmass prior to the trip so that we could save money on parking downtown. After they picked us up, we boarded a nice van and took an hour and 15 minute ride over Independence Pass to the Arkansas River. If you take this trip, sit on the right side of the bus for the best views.
When we arrived at the river we were given wetsuits and boots to keep us warm. We also wore life jackets and helmets. They did a good job of explaining safety rules and procedures before allowing us to leave our stuff on the van and giving us an opportunity to use the bathroom (some of the nicest-smelling port-a-potties I've ever used).
The Numbers trip itself was excellent. We hit rapids right away and had continuous action for about an hour and a half. Our guide did a great job and even let us get out of the boat to swim a little in the river. When we finished with the rapids we were given a light snack that consisted of cheese, crackers, vegetables and fruit, cookies, water, and lemonade.
I would highly recommend Aspen Whitewater Rafting for a rafting trip. My fiance had never been rafting before and they did a great job making her feel comfortable and safe. The van and facilities were clean and the team was very professional. I don't have a single complaint about their operation!
