“Fantastic Views from the Mountain Top”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2011

A ride up the Silver Queen Gondola provides fantastic views of the mountains surrounding Aspen from the top. At 11, 212 feet the views are truly spectacular! Riding the gondola you also get some terrific views of Aspen itself, until it disappears behind a mountain. If you are physically fit consider hiking up the mountain and maybe taking the Gondola down. We considered hiking down but were discouraged by a local sharing that the hike down was harder on the knees/legs than the hike up. In the summer there are nature hikes and activities for kids at the mountain top.

“Great views”

We bought the week-long two- mountain summer pass online and saved a little. The free naturalist tour was interesting and we much preferred Aspen's gondola and views over Snowmass.

“Nice ride to a scenic view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2010

The Aspen gondola moves quickly and smoothly. You get a fairly long ride. The scenic view at the top is great. You can see the whole valley of Aspen on the gondola. It is an expensive ride though at $28 (combo ticket with the Maroon Bells bus).

“A fun ride to an amazing place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2008

If you have an afternoon to spend and are skied out--which can happen if you are in Aspen for more than a few days--consider having lunch at the top of Ajax at the Sundeck.

To get there, buy a "foot pass" from the ticket office at the bottom of the Silver Queen Gondola. For $26 you can have unlimited access to the lift.

Once you are at the top, the view is spectacular when the weather is clear. The food is pretty good, especially the chili. My favorite part of it is the full bar, which includes some good local brews. I spent a couple hours today watching some Sunday football and watching the skiers come and go.

Borrowed from EatAspen.com: Cafeteria-style eatery serves wok fare, pizza, fresh daily stews and soups, specialty salads and sandwiches. By night, enjoy an evening of dining and live entertainment at 11,000 feet with our. Friday night dinners contact the Aspen/Snowmass concierge at [--].

The pass also gets you access to several other lifts on the sister mountains, but I didn't make the trip to any of the others.
