Owner description: Visitors can tour the remnants of this former mining town, deserted in the late 1800s after a severe storm knocked out supply routes.

We stopped in here on our way over Independence Pass. It was a great place to stop and take in some history. If you walk down to the General Store, you'll find a nice little display about the history of the town that was once situated on the hillside. There are college students/graduates who can fill you in on further details if you are so inclined. Not many buildings are left standing, but it is interesting to see their construction and you can only imagine how hard it was to live there in the winter. The city of Aspen maintains this site and it is well worth the effort.

We were so impressed with our tour service from Blazing Adventures especially our tour guide, Diane. She was knowledgeable and fun. We were whisked from one site to another and she had a running commentary the entire time. We highly recommend this company and Diane for an informative trip.

Definitely stop here on your way to or from Independence Pass. Wear comfortable shoes and take the walk down to the General Store. This is a small piece of Colorado history that shouldn't be missed!

Stopped by this ghost town while on our way down from a fall colors drive over Independence Pass. After that, almost nothing could impress! Access was easy, in spite of a recent snowfall.

Driving over Independence pass is truly one of the great Aspen experiences. Highly recommended. If you come into town from down valley, however, I wouldn't highly recommend making the drive up to the ghost town on the pass. It's kinda cool but not worth the time...
