This is our fourth time hiking to the top of Ajax aka Aspen Mountain. I did the hike with my two kids ages 8 and 10 and we've done it before when they were 6 and 8. This is definitely a difficult hike for those not in shape or not used to the elevation like us, but it can be done. It took us 3 hours to get to the top. We started on the Ute Trail, which has a great overlook after about 45 minutes climbing. If you hike to the top you can take the gondola down for free. There's a beautiful restaurant at the top and has something for everyone. They have a lot of fun climbing structures for kids, frisbee golf, and a bungee jumping thing. In the restaurant they have ping pong tables and board games, all of these being free of charge. ACES offers free guided hikes from the top. We've never done it but I've heard they're great.

Took the gondola ride with family to the top of Aspen Mountain. Some of my children are too inexperienced to ski Aspen, but we wanted to see the mountain anyway. We took plenty of pictures and ate lunch in the lodge. Everyone loved the views of the town below and the incredible mountains on all horizons. Worth the ticket price.

Fantastic small gondola access providing 3 mile top to bottom runs if you want them. No learner areas as such, but plenty of easy skiing up the top, and if you don't fancy the 3 mile run back, you can always come down in the gondola

80% Expert, 20% Intermediate, NO BEGINNER. Great 3 & 4 Star Black Diamond for upper back Bowls. Steepest ski area in Aspen. They use to hold 24 hours of Aspen , where there was a 24 hour Downhill race with 30-50 teams. You can almost ski off bottom of mtn into downtown shops, (ALMOST). One of my favorite mountains once I ski a few days somewhere else.
