The house was beautiful. However, it was mid-September & Ursula had put on plexi-glass for the winter so no windows would open. Was hot & stuffy! She did give one coupel a fan after they had a panic attaic. She also gave us a cerfew! We had to be in by nine or she would lock the door! This to four people all over fifty!
However, breakfast was very good.

The gracious host has wonderfully restored this home and is very close to the Toltec and Cumbres railroad which is the reason why we chose to stay at this property.

We stayed in the Roosevelt Rm. The bed was not very comfortable and there is no a/c and the windows had no screens. We pulled in a fan we found in the hallway but that did not help cool down the room.We were expecting an elegant breakfast but got a breakfast burrito which was OK (we've had better).

We would rank our stay at the bottom of the list out of all the B&Bs we had the privilege of staying in during our vacation to NM & CO. We would have rather stayed in Taos, NM and driven an hour to ride the train than stay in Antonito.

This was not worth the money when you can drive down the road to Alamosa and find a reasonably motel. $150 for the Roosevelt Room with no AC, no window screens, mini shower. Woke up to party at house next door at midnight. Main room had a handful of TV channels, awful old VHS movies, and the town is deader than a doornail. I appreciate quaint, but this wasn't it. Furniture jammed in every spare space. Nice breakfast and hostess.

This is a gem of a place! The Innkeeper, Ursula, has lovingly restored a railroad-era villa with lots of mahogany and turn-of-the-century ambience. My smallish room, the Bodmer, was clean, neat, and of fair value for the money. The River’s Inn had a distinctly European sensibility about it, quality without flash. Breakfasts were over the top featuring a couple of delicious courses including creamy-cold “Swiss” oatmeal that at first seemed odd but was in fact delicious. The little town of Antonito was unpretentious, a relict of that endangered species known as small-town America. There are two decent eateries (Dutch Mill Restaurant, Dos Hermanas) around the block. This is flat alpine-desert terrain with a distinctive feeling of place, high intermountain valley bracketed by majestic mountain peaks. Like adjacent northern New Mexico, the land and its people trace back to Spanish and Mexican land grants. The River’s Inn adequately provided a memorable B&B experience that is worthy of a return trip.

Who would expect an art deco villa in little Antonito? This carefully
maintained and stylishly furnished B+B is just a few blocks from the Cumbres+Toltec Train and the few facilities Antonito offers. Host Ursula presents an elegant breakfast and provides you with all the necessary information for the daytrips you might want to take to Taos, Chama, Alamosa. We will come again.

That area of the country had beautiful weather in October of 2005. However, in October of 2006 it was cold with a rain/snow mix. When I checked in I asked her about adjusting the thermostat in the room and she said the heat would come on automatically when the temperature was reached. It never came on. I had to sleep in my clothes and never used the beautiful bath in the room for fear of freezing. The other guests walked around the house in their coats and scarves also.

The house is nice, the breakfast was just ok, and there is a nice dog residing in the home (glad I'm not allergic) but without heat none of this really mattered. I was so glad to go home.

This is a very well maintained B&B in Antonito. Walking distance to restaurants and a short drive to the Cumbres & Toltec train. The bath for the 2 smaller rooms is down the hall and the 2 larger rooms have private baths. Highly recommended.
