The food is good, the setting great. The beers on tap were reasonably priced, but mixed drinks expensive with mostly only top-shelf available. The service was friendly, but there was very weird, bad techno music obnoxiously intruding on the idyllic river environment.

Felt well-taken care of from the moment we walked in. Great, friendly, peaceful mountain atmosphere. Tasty sweet barbecue. Really friendly, helpful, excellent staff. One of those places that just make it fun to explore the Colorado mountains. Don't miss the wildflowers up the road sways - particulary up the hill past Crested Butte. Nice visit overall. ;-)

As if the small resort town of Almont, Colorado wasn't secretive enough, it carries within it another secret which is 3 Rivers Resort. Nestled there, at the modest but distinctive resort lodge, is The Smokehouse - which features some of the most authentic, tender, and perfectly smoked beef, chicken, pork, and ribs in Southwestern Colorado.

In 2009 - and airing nationally in 2010, we shot 2 episodes of LIP'EM & RIP'EM with Lefty Larsen featuring a rock star guest. We asked our celebrity if he'd like to visit the nearby town of Crested Butte and he asked "What's the point? Everything we want is right here."

So, every day for a week, we were either enjoying the Smokehouse Deli for breakfast, or the beautiful patio restaurant for lunch or dinner (or both). Tom Brennan and Krissy Clary operate this quiet outdoor piece of heaven and it's about guaranteed you'll meet them. They are personable and, if asked, will happily give you some free samples should they have something come out fresh from the smoker.

The beer and wine selection is good (but there is no hard alchohal served - I mean, who needs a martini with ribs?). Speaking of ribs, once you try them as they fall off the bone, you'll likely not try anything else....so, if you're staying at the resort for a week, use your time wisely and try the chicken and beef first. If it's a night night occasion, go straight to the ribs.

The scenic view specific to this restaurant is specific to their covered outdoor patio concept in that there are trees and rocks and a rock firepit which gives a person the feel that they're picnicing in the mountains. There is also semi-frequent accoustic entertainment.

You'll be able to see this restaurant and the resort in an online video at 3RiversResort.com in late 2009.

Nestled in the Colorado High Country half-way between Gunnison and Crested Butte, is a wonderful little jewel of a patio restaurant named the Smokehouse/Deli & Patio. It is located at the Three Rivers Resort in Almont, Colorado. Food is terrific and varied to appeal to the appetite of anyone seeking a unique mountain country outdoor dining experience. Menu specials practically every night. A favorite is the fried catfish dinner each Friday evening. Great steak special, large tasty salads and terricic sandwiches. The atmosphere is pure mountain country and the outdoor patio/eating area is rustic, kid-friendly and comfortable. Evenings in the mountains at 8500 feet altitude can be chilly, even in summer, so take a light wrap for comfort. The owners are also the hostess and cook. Krissy and Tom are ultra friendly and provide great service and good food at reasonable prices. Give this special place a try-you won't be disappointed.
