“Food's Ok, but Over Priced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

Ok, the food is pretty good. The wait staff is friendly, but the novelty of throwing peanut shells on the ground wears off quickly when you look at the menu. The Northwoods Inn has been here since I was a kid and it attracts a loyal following, but it needs a serious make over.

There are too many nice places in So Cal that serve a good steak that do not involve dusty old stuffed animals, fake icicles on the roof, and stratospheric menu prices.

Try it once, if you must, but then get yourself to Roy's, McCormick's, The Chart House, or any other higher end place that offers a better dining experience...you'll get a lot better bang for your buck.

“There's is better out there.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

I've eaten here through the years and it's just average. The lunch plates are fine but the dinner is overpriced. I'd rather drive to Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ for great fare.

“WORTH A OUT OF STATE ROAD TRIP!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

Like a visit to a Northern Snow Chalet. The trip never let's you down, the building, the size, the food, the service, the art on the walls, the bears (stuffed), the whole experience that lives up to a visit to THE NORTHWOODS INN.

It all begins with peanuts on your table and you throw the shell's on the floor. The menu is a wood plaque on the table. For a starter, have a draft rootbeer (so good). All dishes come with rice, a giant baked potato (with mushroom gravy or whipped cheese butter), both are amazing and of course their legendary salads (one with marinated red cabbage an the other blue cheese), the combo somehow becomes the legend. Also includes a hot cheese toast (all 3 are all you can eat).

The main fare goes from giant scallops (my favorite), to grilled shrimp, amazing steaks and chicken, lobster, king crab (I told you it was worth coming here from out of state!) For dessert a blackberry sundea or a chocolate rum sundea).

I will reveal a secret, you have to ask for their Northwoods steak sauce. It is like gold, I put it on everything, you'll love it! You'll enjoy the whole experience of a trip to the Northwoods Inn! ENJOY (my first time in the 1960's was just as great last night!)

“Full of Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

This isn't your ordinary steak house. The Northwoods Inn has been around for many years and I have been going to this particular location for over 30 years. The dinners are plenty large and the food is amazing. Their secret is their cheese butter that they put on their baked potatoes! This is a must if you visit this restaurant. My husband and I split the Large Lumber Jack Steak and this is plenty for the both of us. With the unlimited salad and bread, you won't go hungry. All dinners are served with the unlimited green salad, red cabbage salad and garlic bread ~ This is a meal in itself! The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful. The building is a log cabin with snow on the roof - it adds to the charm of the restaurant. This is a must stop for anyone interested in an excellent steak dinner!

“Great Food-Great Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

We go to the Northwoods Inn for special occasions & always at Christmas. In the 25 years we have been going-it remains the same. The food is always good and we like the idea of the rustic flavor of the place. It seems like home. Try the Mahi-Mahi or the grilled Halibut or the fish sandwich. The large baked potatoes are delicious, especially with the cheese sauce. We will continue hopefully to enjoy one of the best restaurants for years to come.
