We were at Avila La Fonda Hotel over Thanksgiving & since they don't have a restaurant on premises, we ate elsewhere - big mistake because we got back to the hotel to smells of turkey and ham wafting through the air - it was better than what we had just paid for at a restaurant and this is just one of the many 'snacks' that the hotel constantly had in a small room off of the lobby. If you want a book, games, dvd to watch in your room, snacks from the pantry (which is honor system & cost is same as their cost as they purchase in bulk from Costco - when was the last time you paid 35 cents for a soda?). The staff is friendly, accommodating, and efficient. The hotel is like a little Spanish hacienda with stucco walls, stained glass windows and lighting and we were there to see the transition of the hotel into it's holiday décor with fresh flowers just about everywhere you looked, garland, Christmas tree, etc. Each morning we had coffee in front of the fire in the lobby while eating the freshly baked chocolate croissants. Nachos at noon, wine and appetizers in the evening, a pie upon checking in from the local ranch bakery and a cute little box of chocolates when checking out. Was like a home away from home - but they cook better than I do. :-) There isn't a lot to do in the town, but San Luis Obispo is close and so is Pismo Beach so we did our busy black Friday shopping then were more than ready for the quiet of Avila Beach. Take a walk on the beach in the morning and see all the dogs playing - seems they all know one another as they stroll along with their masters. Don't forget to rent an electric bike - is across the street from the hotel and the paths are beautiful along the golf course. I highly recommend a stay at Avila La Fonda - truly the best customer service I've experienced anywhere in the world.

Dear KBeachLover,

We can't thank you enough for taking the time to let others know about you experience during your recent visit to Avila Beach and the Avila La Fonda Hotel. I am so pleased that you were able to spend your Thanksgiving holiday with us.

As you mentioned the Avila La Fonda Hotel does not have a full restaurant but we provide complimentary food throughout the day as a way to say thank you to our guests! Our fresh baked croissants are made by a local baker and baked fresh in the hotel each morning, served with fresh Starbucks coffee and fresh organic orange juice, it's the perfect way to start any day at the beach. Don't be a beach bum for too long we provide nachos, fresh fruit virgin margaritas, Corona and Mexican Coca-Cola each day from 12-2PM. Our manager hosted evening wine receptions are the perfect time to relax and visit with your loved ones, and other guests. Featuring all you can eat appetizers and a featured winery each month the Wine Reception is the highlight of our offerings. Take a siesta and return to the Hospitality Suite for fresh baked pie from locally renowned Avila Valley Barn. Add a scoop of Vanilla bean ice cream and some fresh Starbucks coffee to help top off your evening delight. You night owls have something to look forward to also, join us for fresh baked cookies and milk each night at midnight!

I want to thank you once more for taking the time to let others know about your experience at the Avila La Fonda Hotel. We hope to see you again very soon.

booked it on line and saw Costco price for queen room, honestly never looked any further at detail. Was surprised when we walked into room and did not see a bed, but saw a kitchen? It was a Murphy bed?? Not what we expected at all. However they were great and upgraded us to what we expected. Staff and service were great. If you like a fresh croissant, good wine and great pies and snacks, you will love it.

My husband and I are already talking about when we can return to this hotel. It has a great location and is within walking distance to the beach and pier. From the welcome complimentary snack basket we received in our room to the complimentary wine they have in the evening with delicious appetizers we were impressed with how this hotel strove to make us feel at home. The rooms are oversized and spacious. Yes, our room had a Murphy bed, but that provided us room to snuggle up on the couch as watch one of they many movies they have available to borrow and watch. They have an honor snack room which you can buy anything you need at cost. My husband and I will definitely be back.

What an amazing experience here at Avila La Fonda!! From the time we walked through the door, we were greeted by the general manager Chris who was very pleasant and accommodating. What this hotel offers is A wonderful experience where you feel like this is your home,,from morning hot crossiants, lunch nacho bar (thanksgiving turkey and ham on thanksgiving),evening wine and cheese and homemade pies at night. Being able to just grab a beach chair on the way out the door left us with less stress going to th beach. We will only be staying at Avila La Fonda in the future as the staff is amazing and caring for all the guests that stay here. My expectations were surpassed. Thank you everyone at Avila La Fonda! Anyone that has left a negative review is beyond crazy!! If you want to be impressed stay at Avila La Fonda!!

Our stay at Avila La Fonda was a gift from our son & daughter-in-law for our 44th wedding anniversary & what a special gift it was! It has a Bed & Breakfast feel because it's small & the staff are so warm & accommodating. It has no pool, rec room, tennis court BUT IT DOESN'T NEED THEM! You're greeted with the best chocolate croissants in the morning I've ever had, a nacho bar at noon (with Coronas & virgin margaritas!) a wine reception at 5pm with enough hors d' oeuvres to call it dinner, but at 8pm was the highlight......fresh, hot pie a la mode & coffee! There were 2 red roses in our room & we left with a little parting gift from the hotel. We will recommend Avila La Fonda to all our friends & will be going back as soon as possible. It's only 1 block from the beach but you never have to leave the hotel if your don't want to. It provides everything you will need for an unforgettable stay. Dave & Kate L. Castro Valley, CA

So glad we stumbled upon this little gem! It's a cute little boutique hotel right in the heart of Avila and just about a block and a half from the beach. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with a great gift basket. Our room even had a jacuzzi tub! All the amenities are great....Wine receptions, fresh baked pies, chocolate croissants in the morning! The staff are so nice and welcoming they really made it seem like we were staying in their home! We will be back

There were some things that were really great about this hotel, but nonetheless, we left early and stayed at another hotel.
Great: Nice reservation desk people, GREAT snacks put out about every 4 hours starting with unreal chocolate croissants at breakfast, make-your-own nachos around noon with Coronas and "real" Cokes, wine happy hour with cheeses, fruits & crackers, homemade pies with local fruits at around 8:00 from local bakery, fresh made, huge choc chip cookies and milk at 10:00, walking about 1-2 blocks to the beach, great for kids. All of this was really good, a nice added bonus and fun.
Not So Great: 2 types of rooms: 1 with Jacuzzi in bedroom the other has Queen murphy bed (no, I'm not kidding!), some rooms (our first room) was about 12 inches from the sidewalk on the town's main street - God help you if you get 1 of these rooms!, the AC is a weird somewhat portable unit that's loud and difficult to obtain desired temperature, lots of 20-something's hanging around the lobby being loud, taking up the fireplace area and visiting with their friends who work there, place run by the 20-something's...we never saw a staff member older than 25, Bellhops roaming around seeming to be looking to entertain themselves (they were nice though!), no HBO although advertised as having it, loud parking lot on back side, really loud street on front.
We won't be going back, but if you don't mind loud, have the money and want to bring your kids on a beach vacation, you might love it. It was just the 2 of us, so....not so much!

Room Tip: Nothing on the ground floor! You have to choose between street side or parking lot side. The parki...

Dear SanDiegoJJo,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are so pleased to hear that you were able to take advantage of some of the wonderful things that we offer here at the Avila La Fonda Hotel. In saying that I do understand that our hotel is not for everybody. Regarding the Queen Murphy Bed, it appeared that this was not something that you felt was an acceptable form of bedding. Again, I understand that our style is not for everyone and I think it would help to explain why we opted for the Queen Murphy Beds rather than standard bedding. As you may have noticed all of our Great Rooms are designed with family in mind; which is why during the day the Murphy Bed is in the upright position to allow for a large area for entertaining and relaxing. Featuring full kitchens; our Great Rooms work great for a certain clientele but certainly not for everyone. We do provide a turn-down service and second maid service each day in which your bed is turned down and your entire room is cleaned. We also provide all guests occupying Great Rooms with a full ice bucket and indulgent Ghirardelli chocolates on their pillows. This is one of the many ways we attempt to indulge our guests in above average services and amenities. I understand that the proximity to the street was rather close, as it is with most hotels in heavily populated areas. I assure you that although the town is very popular during the day, at sundown the noise from our residential community is rarely an issue. It seems there was some confusion regarding our staff members. We hand select each and every one of our employees based on their qualifications and personality. While it may have appeared that our staff was entertaining themselves and friends, what you actually witnessed is our staff doing what they do best; entertaining our wonderful guests! We do in fact offer HBO and would have been happy to assist you in locating the specific channel if given the opportunity. I am so sorry to hear that the Avila La Fonda Hotel was not for you. We truly hope that you can find a place where you feel right at home as most of our guests do!

Best regards,
