We trust TripAdvisor ratings, and they sure were right this time too. I realize reviews from a couple years ago were poor, but apparently ownership changed. This place is great. Our room (210?) was in a corner facing the healthclub and the mountains. The room was perfectly equipped, lovely bathroom, comfy bed, neat window-seating area, etc. Breakfast was excellent. the trail that runs between the inn and the creek is a great place for a picturesque walk. Everything about the place is great. Be aware it is not at the beach; it is 1+ miles away...and that was swell. It was quiet and not touristy, which we appreciated. Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, and San Luis Obispo are all close by, so Avila Village Inn is in an ideal location.

It's hard to know where to begin. There are so many postive things to share! The rooms are very modern. I even got some decorating ideas! The bathroom is georgous, something out of sunset magazine. The king bed is so cozy with the down comforter you never want to leave it, especially with your direct glow and warmth of the fireplace. Out on the balcony you have the hot tub which was a perfect end the day. You could set your own temperature too.
The upstairs lobby has a sitting area with a couple couches and games you can play & a flat screen tv just for kicking back.
The downstairs lobby/sitting area is one of the most beautiful areas! You feel like you have been swept away to the mountains. You just want to be cozy in your stockin feet and curl up with your book or your lover & enjoy the firelace! It is such a peaceful, warm & welcoming place to be.
The staff makes you feel right at home and is at your beckon call for all your needs. They are GREAT!!
For dinner the deli just about a block from there has wonderful fresh meals & then deli for lunch. Along with a little store. You also get full use of the Avila Bay Club to even do classes if you like. The Bob Jones trail for hiking or biking is amazing! You wind around a beautiful creek for miles.
The Inn offers many little things that make it even that much more special. Fresh lemon water, coffee, hot tea all day long. Fresh hot cookies. Bikes to rent. Internet access if needed.
We have stayed at many 5 star resorts and this one is right in with the best of the them. Very Romantic!!! Quiet & Secluded, away from the everyday hubbub!!

We loved our stay here while visiting San Luis Obispo. I booked the room the day before with a AAA discount and stayed in the standard king room ($134 + tax)! It was perfect for the two of us - the bathroom is large with double sinks and a spacious tub and the bedroom is nicely decorated. We had a small balcony with a view of the mountain side and tennis courts of the Avila Bay Club. We took advantage of the balcony, table, and chairs by reading outside. We love the decor of the rooms and the feel of the inn. It's modern and new, but has the warmth and comforts most hotels lack. Service at the front desk was friendly and superb as well.

There were cookies at the front desk when the checked in and complimentary wine, coffee, and tea. There is also wireless internet in the hotel which was great since we had our laptop with us. We borrowed a movie from their collection downstairs and watched it in our room. The continental breakfast had a variety of cereal and muffins, as well as bagels, fruit, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. We jogged on the Bob Jones Trail to Avila Beach and back in the morning. It is a gorgeous trail by the creek and through the golf course. We even took an exercise class at the Avila Bay Club next door - what a great amenity to be a visitor at the club! Woodstone Market is in the front of the same parking lot. Great if you want to pick up food or eat breakfast/lunch. We picked up a fresh baked muffin on our way out and it had to be one of the best muffins we've ever tasted (huge size with perfect, crunchy top and moist insides!).

We stayed at Avila La Fonda during a visit last year. We liked our stay, but overall we prefer Avila Village Inn. We paid ~$250 at Avila La Fonda and I remember the bed wasn't as nice, the hot tub was literally right next to our bed, and service wasn't as friendly. I like how Avila Village Inn feels more secluded and tucked away, yet it's closer to get to the highway. We really enjoyed our stay at Avila Village Inn and will definitely be returning there for our next visit to the Central Coast.

Just spent a long weekend at Avila Village Inn - what a special place! Sure, there were a couple minor, and I mean very minor, issues - not enough towel hooks/bars, low step into the hot tub...but...there's a hot tub! The tub above us did overflow when being used, but it drained off far away from our patio, so it really wasn't an issue. The room had every amenity anyone could want - robes, slippers, down comforters and pillows, fireplace. The hotel itself was a beautiful craftsman style with mission-style furniture and big fireplace. Warm beverages, biscotti, cookies and fruit are always available and the morning breakfast was satisfactory. Guests are entitled to the health club next door - and it's an amazing club - regulation size pool, 7 tennis courts, weights, cardio, cafe, barbecue area. There is a great walking/bike path - 1.4 miles to the beach. We loved this place!

My husband and I just returned from a weekend getaway at the Avila Village Inn. It was our first stay at the hotel and we were not sure what to expect. We usually stay on the ocean but since we booked last minute there were no rooms available.

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is a terrific place to go if you like an upscale, quiet, and relaxing experience. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The service was great. It was so quiet we forgot we were at a hotel.

The hotel is not right on the beach. It is in a woodsy area with a creek about 2 miles from Avila Beach and about 5 miles from Pismo Beach. We did not feel like we missed anything by staying here.

We are already planning a trip back to the hotel.

  • Liked — Quiet area and unique furnishings
  • Disliked — No room service, although a local restaurant does delivery.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over the July 4 weekend with 2 of our small children and were very pleasantly surprised. It’s tucked away in a rather odd location, but is a great base for exploring Avila Beach and the surrounding communities.

We stayed in one of the 2-room suites (lovely living room and separate bedroom) and had plenty of space for the 4 of us. Room was very clean and spacious and the bathrooms were very large – w/c, vanity area, and large tub and shower all separated and nicely appointed. Bed was very comfortable. Wetbar in the living room was a nice touch with mini fridge large enough for 6-pack of beer, couple of ½ gallons of milk with lots of room to spare. Balcony facing the dry creek bed was large and quite pleasant to sit and relax. Jacuzzi on the balcony was perfect after a long day of sight-seeing with the kids. DVD players attached to both flat-screen TVs and there is a small selection of movies offered at the front desk.

All of the staff were quite friendly and accommodating – check-in and check-out was very efficient. Bar upstairs looked pleasant, but did not appear to be open any of the days/evenings that we were there. Weekend delivery of muffins and juice and coffee was perfect to tide us over until we could get ourselves organized enough to venture out for a real breakfast – and the deli located in the complex serves a very good breakfast and is quite convenient for those forgotten travel items.

Only negative I could say is that our suite was on the ground floor and the upstairs neighbors could be heard tromping around at odd hours (don’t know if this is attributable to soundproofing or to particularly loud walkers upstairs – in any event I would opt for an upstairs room next time…) Overall a very good experience and would definitely stay again.

  • Liked — Very Nice Room; Jacuzzi on balcony.
  • Disliked — Noise from upstairs

My husband took me here for my birthday weekend, and what a beautiful Inn. We learned that the Inn is only 3 years new, so the place was spotless and set in a new community in Avila Beach. It was within walking distance to a market/deli, as well as the bike path to Avila Beach was right outside our door.

We really enjoyed the use of the athletic club next door, a clean faciltiy with excellent customer service. Which included a kids area which was packed full of families having fun. As well as an adult swim area which included plenty of shade as well as sun for all people.

At the Inn we enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the lobby, and the DVD's that were offered at no additional charge. We missed out on renting bicycles since they were all rented by 10am. We will bring our own bikes next time. Our room was on the first floor, and we would stay on the first floor again, when you are outside you can hear the above guest get into the hot tub since water pours down the side of the building. I found the water running down relaxing like a fountain.

We also found out that the Inn is now pet friendly, and they have 2 rooms available for travelers with pets (with prior reservations).

The rooms are just like the photos, they do look smaller once you arrive, but I realized that is the camera when I took my own photos of the room it also looked larger than it was. The outdoor hot tub is worth every penny, we enjoyed the privacy and the relaxation that it offered.

Only thing we did not like, since nothing is perfect, the continetial breakfast each morning is really a snack to get you going, which is great, but each morning our order was slightly wrong. Saturday morning we did not get our breakfast I had to go to the front desk and ask for it, and it did not come with the fruit promised. Sunday morning, we got two apple juices when we noted that we only wanted orange juice.

However, anytime I needed help or information I went to the front desk and each time the person behind the desk was great. I want to thank Colleen, for always being attentive and answering all my questions.

I would definitely recommend this place to couples, it is a nice getaway to relax and have fun. We look forward to coming back and bringing our little dog.

  • Liked — cleaniness, professionalism, and the in room outdoor hot tub.
