This place is a hidden gem. We stayed with our family for our son's graduation and were delighted with the hotel and the service. It is very homey, well maintained and has the feel of a ski lodge. All rooms have king beds with fireplaces which are very nice for those crisp central California evenings and mornings. The hotel has reciprocal rights to use the very nice health center next door that has every exercise amenity you could want. The only downside is that we didn't discover this hotel until four years into our son's education at Cal Poly!

Room Tip: Do yourself a favor and book a room with a hot tub. You deserve it!

We just returned from a 4-night stay at Avila Village Inn. What a treat this place was. We discovered Avila Beach on a trip to the Central Coast in 2012, and made it a priority to stay in the area on our next trip. The inn is located in a somewhat secluded area off the main road that leads into the town of Avila Beach. Note: The inn is about 1.5 miles away from Avila Beach itself.

Avila Village Inn is just as it sounds. It's a small lodge that's somewhat between a hotel and a B&B. The rooms are on two floors, that circle the large, open lobby area. This area itself is fantastic, with a fireplace, and plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas. It's not often that we spend a great deal of time in a lobby, but this area is fantastic, and we spent a portion of each evening sitting in front of the fireplace, and talking about the day's activities. Another very comfortable seating area can be found at the top of the spiral staircase on the second level. This area, with its oversized sofas and other furnishings is also a peaceful setting to relax and read a book, or watch the overhead TV.

The rooms at Avila Village Inn are very comfortable. Most rooms (like ours) have a balcony or patio with a private jacuzzi. Our room (214) had a king bed, table and two comfortable chairs, armoire with TV and a DVD player, and a refrigerator and small sink in the living area. The large bathroom had two sinks, and a giant walk-in shower. The all glass enclosure of the shower and nice tiles throughout the bathroom were nice touches. The balcony overlooked a large lawn, that led to a few other buildings adjacent to the property.

This inn does not have a pool, or other recreation amenities that many hotels offer. But, guests are given access to the athletic club next door, which has a swimming pool, spa, tennis, etc. The Bob Jones trail runs along the side of the inn. This paved trail leads 1.7 miles to Avila Beach. It's a gentle, and relaxing walk that cuts through a golf course on the way to the beach. The walk to the beach takes about 35 minutes each way. The inn also has bicycles available for rent that you can take to the beach as well.

Free continental breakfast is available each morning at the inn. It's nothing special, but it's a perk for most people. Another great perk is the 24-hour coffee station located in the main lobby. Peerless coffee is always hot and fresh. They also have hot chocolate and an assortment of teas available (all complimentary). The front desk staff also bakes fresh cookies every afternoon. Another really cool perk is found at the 2nd floor vending machine. All 20-ounce botles of Coca Cola products and Dasani water are availabe at $1 each. This is a steal!! The same products in most hotel vending machines can cost up to $3 each.

Also located next door to the Avila Village Inn (and well worth several visits) is the Woodstone Marketplace. This is a fabulous little country store with a restaurant/deli that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. The food is great and the prices are very nice.

Not sure what the naysayers were talking about in some of the negative reviews here. Sure there are a few minor areas where this inn might be showing its age. But the service was great, the rooms very comfortable, and the location is ideal for visiting Avila Beach and all other Central Coast locations. I highly, highly recommend this place, and we will absolutely stay there on our next trip to the area.

Room Tip: They have suites available if you desire a little extra space. The deluxe king room with the privat...

Avila Village Inn used to be one of our favorite places to stay in the SLO area. The friendly staff, gym access, quiet location and locality to the bike path were perfect. We have stayed on all three sides of the property. We recently returned from a stay last week and were surprised to be awakened at 6:30 am each morning by noisy loud leaf blowers on the adjacent gym property (some vacation, huh?). We were going to leave on the second day, but Nathan (who we were led to believe was a manager) said he spoke with the gym manager and they advised him they would delay the blowing until 10 am. We stayed the next night, only to be awoken again at 6:30 am. With no respite, we asked for some financial accommodation for the interruptions - but alas, none would be provided. The excuse given was it wasn't their fault and they had no control over their neighbors. This not the customer service I am used to in the "hospitality" industry, and there are other properties in the area for future stays. I am sure they will not miss us but this is a big enough issue for me not to return. Maybe others sleep more soundly and this will not be an issue for them but travelers be forewarned.

Room Tip: Stay on either bike path (hot tub) side or the garden side but stay away from the gym side even thou...

We stayed at the Avila Village Inn from November 11 to 14, room 115, with our dog. Before we made the reservation, I had read the reviews posted here, especially the negative reviews and had some doubts about the Inn. Some of the reviews described the Inn as old and not well maintained.
When we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The Inn is fairly new and in excellent condition. It's a bit hard to find because it's at the back of a small office and retail area but that's about as negative as I can think of. It was very quiet - all the offices closed down at night
The Inn is located on the Bob Jones walking/biking trail that leads down to the beach.
The Inn has two rooms which they allow dogs in and we had one of them. The room is clean, with no hint that dogs had been in the room previously. Even my dog did not give any indication of smelling any of the previous dogs.
The room was modern, with a TV, a DVD player, and a refrigerator. The bathroom is large with a big shower (no tub) and two sinks. AC worked well. Bed was comfortable and the linen and covers were very nice and adequate.
The room includes a hot tub on the patio of the room but we didn't use it.
The room opens on to a great room two floors high. There's an interesting fireplace/chimney in the great room - I'll post a picture. The great room was not used very much by the guest during our stay.
On one side of the great room is a winding staircase leading to the breakfast area on the second floor. Breakfast is included in the price. The breakfast is mostly just bread, cereal, yogurt, and juice. An okay breakfast.
But in the office/retail development, no more than 50 feet away, is the Avila Market. They make a very good hot breakfast - eggs, omelets, oatmeal, regular breakfast stuff - and it's excellent. It's also a good place to get lunch or to get a couple of beers in the afternoon and just relax. If you order a pizza, be prepared for a very overstuffed pizza!
Anyway, our stay was delightful. I can highly recommend the Avila Village Inn as a place to stay when visiting the area.

We ended up here after booking via hotwire for a quick overnight on our way up to Monterrey. Having not read any reviews, we weren’t sure what to expect. Turns out the place was absolutely wonderful! While it’s not on the beach, it is tucked away in the woods and makes you feel more secluded. Our room was on the second floor. Our king bed room was not especially spacious, but there was a fireplace and a balcony with seating, so it worked perfectly for us. Overall the place felt clean and well taken care of. The free breakfast in the morning consisted of coffee, juice, milk, bagels, cereal, and toast. The inn is only about a mile away from the beachfront where there is shopping and dining in a fun, boardwalk style area. There are bathroom and outdoor shower facilities at the beach as well. We really enjoyed our quick overnight and are looking forward to our next visit when we can relax a little more and enjoy the area more.

Room Tip: The custom tile tub/shower is a bit tricky to get in and out of as it is a pretty high step, so you...

Got in late and checked in with some very friendly people. Good pricing and great location for the business I had to take care of. Room was nice and cheerful with a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub. Continental breakfast was a little slim in the pickings but tasted good. Second floor area was clean and cheerful for breakfast. Would I stay here again....definitely...here it comes...BUT not for business but for pleasure. No work desk in the room...used the ironing board for my desk...actually rather funny. Glad no one was around to take a picture. Very friendly personnel...

Stayed 2 nights recently and thought is was very nice. The rooms were comfortable, the bathroom very spacious, and the fireplace made it very cozy. The common area was very warm and inviting and the staff was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was nothing special but good none the less. Very pleased with my stay at the Avila Village Inn.
