“A wonderful stay at the Avila VIllage Inn”
Reviewed August 3, 2008

My husband and I just returned from a weekend getaway at the Avila Village Inn. It was our first stay at the hotel and we were not sure what to expect. We usually stay on the ocean but since we booked last minute there were no rooms available.

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is a terrific place to go if you like an upscale, quiet, and relaxing experience. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The service was great. It was so quiet we forgot we were at a hotel.

The hotel is not right on the beach. It is in a woodsy area with a creek about 2 miles from Avila Beach and about 5 miles from Pismo Beach. We did not feel like we missed anything by staying here.

We are already planning a trip back to the hotel.

  • Liked — Quiet area and unique furnishings
  • Disliked — No room service, although a local restaurant does delivery.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over the July 4 weekend with 2 of our small children and were very pleasantly surprised. It’s tucked away in a rather odd location, but is a great base for exploring Avila Beach and the surrounding communities.

We stayed in one of the 2-room suites (lovely living room and separate bedroom) and had plenty of space for the 4 of us. Room was very clean and spacious and the bathrooms were very large – w/c, vanity area, and large tub and shower all separated and nicely appointed. Bed was very comfortable. Wetbar in the living room was a nice touch with mini fridge large enough for 6-pack of beer, couple of ½ gallons of milk with lots of room to spare. Balcony facing the dry creek bed was large and quite pleasant to sit and relax. Jacuzzi on the balcony was perfect after a long day of sight-seeing with the kids. DVD players attached to both flat-screen TVs and there is a small selection of movies offered at the front desk.

All of the staff were quite friendly and accommodating – check-in and check-out was very efficient. Bar upstairs looked pleasant, but did not appear to be open any of the days/evenings that we were there. Weekend delivery of muffins and juice and coffee was perfect to tide us over until we could get ourselves organized enough to venture out for a real breakfast – and the deli located in the complex serves a very good breakfast and is quite convenient for those forgotten travel items.

Only negative I could say is that our suite was on the ground floor and the upstairs neighbors could be heard tromping around at odd hours (don’t know if this is attributable to soundproofing or to particularly loud walkers upstairs – in any event I would opt for an upstairs room next time…) Overall a very good experience and would definitely stay again.

  • Liked — Very Nice Room; Jacuzzi on balcony.
  • Disliked — Noise from upstairs

My husband took me here for my birthday weekend, and what a beautiful Inn. We learned that the Inn is only 3 years new, so the place was spotless and set in a new community in Avila Beach. It was within walking distance to a market/deli, as well as the bike path to Avila Beach was right outside our door.

We really enjoyed the use of the athletic club next door, a clean faciltiy with excellent customer service. Which included a kids area which was packed full of families having fun. As well as an adult swim area which included plenty of shade as well as sun for all people.

At the Inn we enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the lobby, and the DVD's that were offered at no additional charge. We missed out on renting bicycles since they were all rented by 10am. We will bring our own bikes next time. Our room was on the first floor, and we would stay on the first floor again, when you are outside you can hear the above guest get into the hot tub since water pours down the side of the building. I found the water running down relaxing like a fountain.

We also found out that the Inn is now pet friendly, and they have 2 rooms available for travelers with pets (with prior reservations).

The rooms are just like the photos, they do look smaller once you arrive, but I realized that is the camera when I took my own photos of the room it also looked larger than it was. The outdoor hot tub is worth every penny, we enjoyed the privacy and the relaxation that it offered.

Only thing we did not like, since nothing is perfect, the continetial breakfast each morning is really a snack to get you going, which is great, but each morning our order was slightly wrong. Saturday morning we did not get our breakfast I had to go to the front desk and ask for it, and it did not come with the fruit promised. Sunday morning, we got two apple juices when we noted that we only wanted orange juice.

However, anytime I needed help or information I went to the front desk and each time the person behind the desk was great. I want to thank Colleen, for always being attentive and answering all my questions.

I would definitely recommend this place to couples, it is a nice getaway to relax and have fun. We look forward to coming back and bringing our little dog.

  • Liked — cleaniness, professionalism, and the in room outdoor hot tub.

we stayed at the AV Inn over The New Years holiday. The place is
wonderful on details- good use of arts and crafts design, but
some thought of the actual USE of some of these design elements might have changed them somewhat.
First, the bathroom sinks. Nice color, nice aesthetically, but too low and bowl of sink not reachable unless you bent over to reach it. The bathtub- a deep, beautiful looking tub, but in order to turn on the
shower you had to step over the very high, thick tile edge to get into the tub to reach the faucet controls. No bars to grab as you straddled and hobbled over it. If you are elderly, of poor balance or handicapped in some way, this would be dangerous or impossible. Once in the tub to turn on the shower, you are stuck getting wet with cold water until it warms up. Doesn't help in trying to take a relaxing shower! Even if you move the shower head, you still get wet with the cold water unless you scramble out over the high, wide edge again.
The hot tub- nice idea, but once again, the wooden step to get into the tub was too low, so you had to straddle the tub, hope the people walking along the creek (agree with a previous review stating the disappointment of a dry creek bed covered by tree's and a playground set beside it- lousy view) don't see you in a embarrassing pose trying to swing into the water. We found if we used the low step to get up onto the patio chair, then into the tub it worked. PLEASE< get higher steps for your guests! This could be dangerous. We too had an overflow problem, hoping the poor people on the floor below weren't getting soaking wet by the water! There were no instructions on how the tub worked, how to program it, etc. The heater in our room cycled continuously throughout the night- not bothering me so much as my plant operations supervisor husband. We are experienced, nice hotel travellers.
We don't usually nit pick places to death, but found the Avila Villa Inn disappointing. They do have a nice looking wine bar, but that is only open Wed- Sundays. You would think that for NYeve, even having it open for guests a few hours would have been something a little special for those staying there. The Closest bar/restaurant is 7 minutes drive to Avila on a 2 lane winding dark road. It Would have been nice, convenient and safer to have the bar open a few hour's for the guests. A nice touch. Same with the light bkfst delivered to your door in the mornings- again, only on wkends. WOULD it have hurt to do this for your New Years Eve guests?!?!?!? We thought it was funny too that the guy working the desk on the evening of Jan. 1st didn't even go to the trouble of turning on the lovely lobby fireplace for the few of us who stayed behind for that night. We wondered- was too much bother for just a handful of guests-?- Seem's the whole operation was on down mode for a major celebratory holiday.
Ah........... word of mouth is a powerful thing when you are in the business of pleasing $200+ night guests. We did however appreciate the upgrade from the gal on check in. It was 3:10, our room not yet ready. The Inn was clearly not full, and she did offer the upgraded ready room. Thanks!

Our family of four, two kids ages 9 & 11, stayed at the Avila Village Inn over Thanksgiving. We had an incredible stay. We booked a suite with a sofabed for the kids. They loved the hot tub on our balcony. The room was quiet, even though the Inn was completely booked. The morning coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby is a nice treat. We used
the beach cruisers to bike to the beach at Avila. The Avila Bay Sports
Club next door is a nice treat with a great pool and ping pong for the
kids.

The highlight of our stay was the deli located next to the Inn. We had
the best breakfasts there each morning and the owner is delightful. She made the best muffins! I highly recommend the Avila Village Inn.

The service from check-in to check-out is exceptional. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

The pictures on the Inn's website are excellent but nothing can do the Inn or the room’s justice until you step into both. The Inn is in a peaceful and quite location and solid in construction; we heard nothing and the inn was full. The rooms have touches and details that only designer homes have.

We travel a lot and stay at the Four Seasons and the Ritz. These rooms actually are nicer then many we have stayed in at these 5 star hotels. The rooms are big, the furniture is high quality, the walls are painted in beautiful soft hues, and the beds are comfortable with bedding that fits the bed. The bathroom is huge with real stone tile flooring; the shower would fit at least 4 people and the double sinks that are made of stone. The towels are lush and large.

The hot tub outside on the balcony is a quite place to retreat to while in the most quiet and beautiful setting.

There are also DVD's at the front desk if you want to chill out in your beautiful room.

We love the butlers table at the outside hall entrance. In the morning there is a quite knock and when you open your door your delicious breakfast is presented in such a lovely way.

We have been staying in the Central Coast for over 3 years and this is truly the best find. I wish I could keep it a secret but that would not be fair to this magnificent Inn.

This is a charming, privately owned property. The room was spacious, well appointed (robes, iron, refrigerator, coffee maker, wet bar) the grounds were lovely with a walking, bike path, a pretty nice athletic club available and wonderful beds.
I'd stay again and I will soon!
