“Perfect B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2010

My husband and I have stayed at the Inn at Mt. Ada many times over the last 10 years. It is the benchmark at which we measure all other B&B's... and we stay at a lot of them all over the USA. So, far no other B&B even comes close.

I will never forget our first visit. We were picked up at the boat by Michael... he is the most loveable teddy bear I've ever met in human form. He welcomed us warmly with his great big smile and open arms.

Upon arriving at the B&B, Marlene came to the door and said... "Welcome Home, we've been waiting for you"... I swear I felt like I'd just arrived at my favorite aunt's home

We were then invited in and began our guided tour of this beautifully maintained Wrigley Mansion. The rooms are beautifully docorated and the interior's architectual details are a feast for the eyes.

We were then shown to our room which was very well appointed and decorated with cozy and warm furniture and fabrics. All rooms have an ocean view!

The home made cookies (not chips ahoy) brownies and lemon bars were served thrughout our stay and there was no limit to how many you could have (bad news for my diet :-)

We never eat out while there... the breakfast & lunch they serve are unsurpassed... and happy hour with the tasty hot and cold appetizers serve as our dinner... and the bottled water, wine, champagne and beer are complimentary (Yikes... there goes my diet again!). We often take our lunch outside on the very large wrap-around veranda. Also, should you want a picnic lunch... they will fix it for you to take along (golf carts come with each room... so you are free to roam at your leasure). Their veranda is furnished with all sorts of seating, tables for dining, rockers (well yes, for rocking), and other comfortable chairs... meant for you to sit a while and enjoy their breathtaking views.

There are also bowls of fruit and nuts placed throughout the house... like I said, not a good place to diet... but who wants to when you are in such a beautiful environment and all of the food is so yummy.

The staff go out of their way to make your visit wonderful (just like your favorite aunt would). The staff also takes great care in making sure the rooms are immaculate at all times... which requires constant vigilence on their part and thier effort (although rarely seen) is obvious from the way this home is kept.

Soft music plays during the day and in the evening the fireplaces are lit. (Just a side note, most rooms have their own fireplace :-) You can plant yourself on the sun porch... or outside and read a book, nap or snack. Or, you can head into town for a tour (land or sea), shops or night life. You can be as busy or as lazy as you like!

Clearly I could go on and on and rave about this place, but I hope you all will take the opportunity to experience Mt. Ada one day for yourself... it is devine!

Several months ago I came across a review of the Inn at Mt. Ada dated May 20, 2009. It was a very negative, nasty review of the staff and the food.

My wife and I have stayed at the Inn on eight different occasions over the years. Many of the people we have met during our various stays have been returning guests. Some have been returning to the Inn for almost twenty years. That should tell you something about the Inn, its staff, the surroundings and and the food.

The nasty review stated that the service was awful. To the contrary, it is and always has been exemplary! It is one of the reasons we continue to visit the Inn. From the Innkeepers to the housekeeping staff each is warm, friendly and anxious to assist in anyway they can. I cannot recommend a better weekend getaway to totally relax, enjoy surroundings unparalleled, be pampered and enjoy good food and meet wonderful people.

The individual that wrote the May 20 item was a person no one could please. How do I know that? I was at the Inn when that individual was there and she made everyone's experience less than enjoyable!

We spent a night at Catalina and decided it had to be the Inn At Mt Ada. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival we were picked up at the dock by Vicky and driven up the mountain to the inn. As soon as you reach the Wrigleys mansion, you'll just start ooh and aahing away. The view from their balcony is just incredible. You see the casino and the boats gently bobbing away in the blue sea with all the all the other smaller properties inland and the mountain ranges to your left. We were served a simple filling lunch and then shown to our room - we chose the garden porch - small but quaintly beautiful and adequate. I must add that all the rooms have a great view - even the toilets - as the inn is perched on a hill. You get a golf cart to use - which is really handy - as we drove around to the casino, the Descanso beach and even the inner passage with it for two days. (otherwise you'd have to pay to rent the thing). The food served is just the thing you need on a holiday - 2 lunches, warm muffins in the morning before a proper sit down breakfast, a pantry you can make your own float or sundae, cookies and crisps and hor'dourves in the evening. Just so homey, convenient and no stress thinking about food. You also get a ride back to the boat on the day you need to leave this beautiful place. We felt rested and rejuvenated and will definitely come back for more.

We just sent another beautiful weekend at Mt. Ada … Once again, we were extremely satisfied. We come for the annual Jazz Festival and are actually disappointed that we don’t spend more time in the Inn itself (although we are now coming a day earlier just to do that!). Over the years we have stayed at many B&B’s, this is still our favorite. The views from the Inn are unbelievable, the staff is ever so friendly and our hosts are always gracious. We actually love the food (breakfast, lunch and happy hour)! My wife likes her ice cream (sometimes late at night) and I even indulge (just for her - ahem) … After the shows, we always end up sitting on the veranda, overlooking Avalon and toasting to anyone and everyone. This Inn is a dream come true!

Every summer, my husband and I travel to Catalina to see our kids for Parent's Day at Catalina Sea Camp (CIMI). We have tried a few of the disappointing hotels in town, enjoyed the beautiful views from Hamilton Cove, but never stayed at the Inn at Mt. Ada. Wow, have we been missing out! A very comfortable, easy place to stay. Golf cart, snacks, beverages, wine, champagne, beer, ice cream sundaes, wonderful breakfast, lunch, evening happy hour, we really enjoyed the hospitality. Our room, though small, had an amazing view of the harbor, twinkling night lights of L.A.., and the ocean. The entire staff went out of their way to please.

My only complaint, and it is not with the hotel, is that there really is not any good dining options on the island. We had dinner both nights at the Buffalo. Nothing fancy, but we really enjoyed ourselves.

Next summer, we will stay again at the Inn.

I have to agree with the majority of guests of the Inn - I absolutely loved everything about it. Compliments to the staff who were outstanding in every way. The Inn is absolutely charming and I will definitely return.

I met a wonderful couple from Long Beach (George and Sheila) and enjoyed touring the island as well.

I have no complaints - only compliments and also a huge thank you to the staff for a wonderful experience.

We have enjoyed Mt. Ada as a couple, as a family, with a group of friends, and for special occasions through out 25 years. Going back so much says it all: a comfortable place to decompress from work as well as a great place to celebrate (weddings, anniversaries, birthdays). The accomodations and the staff make us feel at home. Each day there is a unique breakfast menu. The staff has always been gracious and more than willing to prepare something different for our friends with special dietary needs. Golf carts are supplied to zip around and explore the island. The little special touches (like ice cream sundae, fresh baked coolies, and friendly smiles) make Mt. Ada comfy and cozy. So comfy that it is common to see the guests (in the big over stuffed chairs) falling asleep while reading their favorite book.

The staff has also helped us find or engage florists, bakers, restaurants, musicians, photographers, ministers, transportation, massages, and activities. They also tell some fun and interesting stories.

If you are looking for "club life" or "nightlife" : Catalina is probably not for you, unless you have come over for a special Casino event (like the Jazz Festival).

If you are looking for quality time with family and friends: THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU.
