I love this hotel! The rooms are great. We had a King room with a balcony and an amazing view. The hotel may be small but everything on the Island is small. The stores are small the restaurants are small it's just a small place that's just what you get. It's right next to Vons which came in handy for late night snacks and drinks. It's ridiculously close to everything. And the staff was very helpful with picking out places to eat and different things to do. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

This hotel is pretty standard like alot of Catalina Island hotels. It is a few stories high, a bit older & quirky and serves breakfast. The view from my balcony was great. The location of this hotel is really awesome because Vons is right next door and the main 'strip' is a 1 minute walk away. The staff was very friendly and the room very clean. There are different room styles as well, not all are the same so let your travel agent know what your likes are (i.e. view, near front of hotel) I do not believe this hotel has an elevator so check first if you use a wheelchair. My room was a couple stories up and towards the back of the hotel. It took awhile to get to my room. The decor in the halls is beachy and fresh. Overall I liked it pretty well. Breakfast hours start at 8:30, so unfortunately I can't rate that as my boat left at 8am.

I recently stayed at the Catalina Island Inn with a group of friends for a weekend getaway. It is a small hotel but the accommodations are very nice. The view from the King bedroom is amazing. The nautical decor is cute and cozy. You can walk right to the beach and the staff was very friendly. You feel very comfortable and welcome here. Thanks for the great weeked!

i have been going to catalina for the past 15 years. My husband and i have stayed at a number of hotels on the island. The Catalina Island Inn was very quaint and reminded us why we go to catalina in the first place.

I read some of the previous reviews and find it a little silly that people expect big rooms in catalina ... the town itself is only one square mile !
It is ture that the building is very old... when you walk through the hallways old photos line the wallls. I thought it was a neat touch to see all the old photos of the island back in the early 1900's .
Our view was Amazing... ask for the top floor... you got to do stairs but its worth it !( ps most every hotel we have stay at near the beach didnt have elevators .)

The staff was very nice and had great recommendations for dinner and tours .
If you book a package deal you save money and get tours and roundtrip on the express boats that take you to the island.
All and all the stay was great and we will be going back :)

I have stayed here now for the 3rd time. The first two times i stayed on the top floor....the view was great, bed good too. But the bathrooms are so sub-par for a 250-300 dollar/night room its unbelievable.....it's about the same as a motel 6 standard bathroom. But this time we only got the 3rd floor w/balcony...and yes the balcony is nice, but the walls and ceiling is so bad you can hear everything. We could not even sleep past 7am because the floor above was squeeking so much from people just walking around....completely unacceptable by all standards.......just not worth it....go somewhere else.

Just got back from Avalon and had a great stay. Must admit that I was a bit nervous from reading the reviews, but when we opened the door we were amazed by the view. We had a King room with ocean view & balcony ( top floor) for $300/night. Granted the view was over Von's roof, but it was spectacular.

We found the hotel staff to be very pleasant & accomodating. The breakfast consisted of danishes, muffins, oatmeal & a coffee cake, along with milk, OJ & coffee. Not outstanding, but adequate. A microwave would be a nice addition.

With 2 small closets, we had no trouble storing our clothing for a 4 night stay. The bathroom was rather large, and had a medicine cabinet that we found quite handy. It did take a while to get hot water up to the top floor, but once it was hot, it stayed hot.

The short walk to the hotel was nothing, and climbing stairs to the top floor with luggage was not a big deal to us. It was a small price to pay for the cozy & private atmosphere the top floor provided. An elevator would have ruined the ambience of this quaint hotel.

We could here the beeps from the delivery trucks at Von's & the constant purr of Von's AC units. I can see where that might be a problem, but we slept quite well. We slept with the doors open, and for the most part we were comfortable. Only one night was a bit warm. Sleeping in fresh air was refreshing & the room didn't have the usual hotel room mustiness. (is that a word???)

The balcony was great. We ate breakfast there in the mornings, and had drinks out there in the evenings. The lights of Avalon were beautiful.

We have stayed in bigger & better places for less money, but the market drives the price. One must also remember this building is 100 years old, and so it can't be compared to newer hotels. It had the character that new hotels lack.

All in all, we had a pleasant stay at the hotel & a wonderful time in Avalon.

  • Disliked — lack of microwave for breakfast
