Owner description: The Avalon Theatre is located in the lower level of the Catalina Casino building. It was built in 1929 as one of the first theaters designed for talking movies. The original Page organ still is played before the movies on Friday-Sunday nights. The theater features first-run movies, seats 1,184 people, is 138 feet across and 43 feet high. Art deco murals by John Gabriel Beckman (designed the artwork in the Grauman's Chinese Theater)adorn the walls and create a glamorous ambiance.

“Beautiful & Historical!”

We took the shorter tour for $10 pp and it was very interesting! The art work inside and outside the theater is fantastic! Our guide told us lots of fun historical tidbits....did you know there has never been gambling there even though it's called a Casino? Very worthwhile and great for a not so sunny day activity!

“Now that's a movie theater!”

Absolutely beautiful, historic and, thanks to equipment upgrades in the last few years, a wonderful place to enjoy a first run film.

“A Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

This is one of the original movie theater palaces of yesteryear. No matter what is playing there you have to go. It is a wonder just to sit in that theater and look at the paintings, the ceilings, the stage, and the seats. The entrance and the lobby are a step back in time. You are surrounded by paintings that should be in a museum.

“Large Venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Great Paintings inside and the place is huge! Sorry, no nachos or hotdogs but it has everything else. Last five rows are newer seats, audio and video systems were great. One show a day when we went at 7:30PM but it is what everyone else in town is doing at that time! Got to love Avalon!
