Our guide Beth did a great job letting us know about all the cool bits of information along the 3 Hour tour (definitely recommend over the 2 Hr). We got to see lots of Bison, stopped at the airport to browse the store and look around (Bison Burger was great!) then to the Eagle habitat, saw a fox towards the end and saw great views of the coastline and back country :) Beth even offered to take our picture at key viewpoints (thought that was very nice) we will definitely recommend her and the tour to any friends/family going to the island! Perfect for Avalon cabin fever haha

There are a couple of jeep tour companys that take you into the Catalina Island back country, but only one is part of the Catalina Island Conservancy which is a non-profit organization which pretty much manages most of the island. The jeeps are not the large Hummer type that carry a boatload of people. These are real jeeps that carry 5 very comfortably. The driver was extremely knowledgeable and knew just where to look to give us a close up view of the tiny Catalina Fox and of course the Bison that roam the island. We really did get up close and personal with these huge and beautiful creatures. The views from the tour were spectacular! All proceeds stay on the island to preserve and protect the back country and it's wildlife. We really enjoyed the trip. The 3-hour tour was perfect!

What an awesome time we had on our tour with Chris at the wheel. We were graced with fabulous weather. It had rained during the night so everything was fresh and the views were incredible. The jeep is open air so dress in layers with hats, gloves, etc. it can get windy! We saw bison and a bald eagle. Chris taught us all about the geology of the island, the history of the island and it's people and the flora and fauna. We stopped several times for photos and just to take it all in. The Conservancy does such a great job with the preservation of the island. The sound of silence mixed with the natural beauty made us feel renewed. We had fun when Chris offloaded and would randomly turn down a road and just go with the wind. We even stopped at the Airport in the Sky and had a Buffalo Burger! What a fantastic day and a great way to see another part of this amazing island!

We took the eco jeep tour on our recent visit to catalina island during the recent Thanksgiving holidays. We did our tour on Friday and were the only folks on our jeep. As a result our family of 3 got a customized tour.
The jeep only had a canopy at the top and provide complete view on all directions. The island does provide for some gorgeous views from a higher elevation. Although the brochure touts about island wildlife like Bisons, foxes etc, we only spotted a deer or two. Our driver did claim that the dotted brown objects in the far distance were bisons. But it was too hard to confirm with naked eyes without any binoculars.
We proceeded all the way to the island airport. Spent some time there and had a quick snack. Our guide/driver was quite knowledgeable and accommodating and willingly provided answers to all our queries. On the whole, we felt that it was money well spent as the tour was conducted by the island conservancy which is a non profit organization.

We had one day to visit the Island and decided to take a half day private jeep tour. Our tour guide was Andrew Hobbs and he was great. He was very knowledgable and interesting. He took us all around the interior and we were able to see a couple of bald eagles, red tailed hawk and bison. He took us to a lot of interesting sites and gave us the island history. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
