We had a rough ride on the ferry and were so happy that they let us check in early! We stayed in the newer building, so we didn't get the classic charm but the room was spacious and we had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. The room has a large flat screen tv but the location is so close to all the shops and restaurants you'll only be in the room to shower and sleep. PS the bed is very comfy.

If you are looking for a really modern, up to date hotel, with pool, bar, and other ameninties, this hotel is not for you. However, if you are in the mood for a quiet, relaxing, vintage, turn of the century hotel - this is definitely the place. The decor, both inside and out is definitely turn of the century. My room was small, but very nice, and comfortable. I found the staff very helpfull, and friendly. The hotel is a very short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Walk to the store, buy some wine, take it back to your room, sit on the veranda, and enjoy the breeze and views! The bathroom was a little small (Munchkin size), but ok. They do offer cottages which I would recommend for families. The patio area does have a small jacuzzi. Donuts, coffee, and juice are available each morning. There are several restaurants very close to the hotel that serve full breakfasts. I really enjoyed my stay, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have more exposure to the evening breezes - there are no elevators.

We stayed in the courtyard villas area of the hotel. The room was amazing. My fiance loved the bathroom because it had a nice shower and a huge garden tub with jets. The bed was soo comfortable that we had to ask for a late checkout. It had a better tv than the one I have at home. The donuts for breakfast were fresh and the coffee was good. Everything was very clean, no stinky cigarette odors like most places. I had planned this trip to ask my girlfriend to marry me (and she said yes!) and Martha set us up with a great room at a great rate. Thank you so much for your help! We will definitely be back again and would love to have room 501 again.

Room Tip: The courtyard villas rooms are all newly remodeled and were very quiet.

The hotel is really clean and well maintained. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The only negative I can think of is the room we had (#204) was pretty small but that is to be expected in many of the older properties such as this. One of the the things I enjoyed most was drinking my morning coffee on the beautiful deck.

They have a shuttle to and from the Catalina Express pier but they only use it for guests who bought a package. However, if you just happen to catch them at the right time and they have room in the van, they will take you. Otherwise, you will have to take a taxi at $11 or walk. It's a little less than 1/2 mile from the hotel to the pier which is ok but going to the hotel, the last part is up a fairly steep hill so if you are taking heavy suitcases, it might be a challenge.

My mom and I loved our stay at Hotel Catalina last weekend! It was our first time to the Island and we had such a great time. The people at the hotel were really helpful - they let us check in early and store our luggage in a locker after check out. We were also thinking about bringing our whole family later in the year and they showed us different room options. We loved having donuts and coffee on the balcony every morning too! We didn't want to leave! We will definitely be coming back!

Thanks to everyone who works there! :)

Room Tip: We loved the room with the ocean view!

The hotel offers a variety of packages with either tours or ferry service from mainland California included. We chose one with the ferry fares included. The hotel is like everything else in Avalon, a short walk from where ever you are in town. You can spot the hotel from the ferry dock due to the blue sign on it's roof. We stayed in room 301 which I would have to say is the best room in the hotel, although not priced significantly different from the other rooms. You have a view of the harbor right from your room, and the balcony is a mere six feet from your room's door. It being a historic building you have to realize the bathrooms are later additions and thus somewhat small, but realistically how much time do you spend in the bathroom on vacation? Seriously?!. They are more than sufficient for their purpose. The beds are soo comfortable, especially after a full day of walking. The staff are polite, courteous and professional. They were willing to assist us when needed. If you want to experience Avalon as Mr. Wright intended, this is the perfect hotel. We loved the historic ambiance of the building and it's decor. The balcony is a wonderful place to spend the morning watching the sunrise and enjoying some coffee and donut. The only negative I have to express is there is no coffee in the room, and the coffee in the lobby is not available until 8am but then not everybody gets up as early as me on vacation. Overall, a great place to stay, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 301 is the best; however, there are no elevators and this is on the 3rd floor. So if, you can...

Staff was friendly and attentive, and allowed us to check in way before our check in time. In addition they let us stay well past the check out time, which really saved our life since the boat left almost 8 hours after.

Unbelievably hospitable and easily within walking distance from the pier. Highly recommended and don't forget to say hi to Martha! She makes the place really shine

Room Tip: Spending a little extra for the courtyard rooms is worth it if you plan to spend time in the room
