Our stay at The Old Turner Inn was wonderful. The hostess, Kathleen was delightful. She did everything she could to make our stay more pleasurable. The breakfast was delicious and so were the appetizers during happy hour. Our room was clean, comfortable, and niceley decorated. We hope to come back soon.

The Old Turner in is great! The Innkeepers are personable and helpful. The room we stayed in was comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect. Two blocks to the center of Avalon. A wonderful place to spend a weekend at.

Room Tip: The two front rooms would be noisier. Our room was upstairs, on the side and was quite nice.

We arrived 10:30 AM Friday of Father's Day weekend and the walk up 1 1/2 blocks from the main ferry road with our overnight bags was not at all strenuous. There are welcome letters waiting for the guests but our charming hostess, Krista, was there and gave us the happy news that our room was ready for us. We had the King Suite which has a 2nd balcony room overlooking the street, containing a twin-size day bed with trundle. Beautiful furnishings and oil paintings and the bedding was luxurious. We certainly slept well.

As it's a corner room, multiple windows open on both sides, allowing breezes, although the balcony window facing the street let in a lot of the street noise. (You think golf carts aren't loud, but when you're right over them, and they make deliveries during the night...) But just close those windows and keep the side ones open and it's cool and quiet. And that was all the noise there was - we've been on Mackinac Island, another heavy tourist island which had loud partying late at night, but not so with Avalon.

The house is filled with period appointments and pictures of family lineage (ask to see the photos of the owner's dress first worn at the Casino's opening, then again at its 50th anniversary and then its 75th! by the next generation). Krista was attentive both in answering any questions and in continually offering us drinks both evening and morning.

We were pleasantly surprised that wine and appetizers consisted of hors d'ourves fit for any upscale restaurant and very good wine. Choices were white and red. Hubby had the red, which I didn't taste :c, but the white was simply delish. We became engrossed in conversation with other guests and Krista kept refilling our glasses - lasting well past the advertised 30 minutes. Oh, and that recalls another surprise - above our fireplace were a dainty decanter & cordial glass set, filled with wonderful sherry.

The downstairs seating is a living room set in front of the fireplace, table for 4 in front of the piano. Then in the front sitting porch a table for 6 and another table for 4. Lots of options here and plenty for all.

We were fortunate our weekend was one of M Restaurant's specialty openings - executive chef Katherine only opens for dinner once a month or so for holiday or event weekends (Mother's Day, etc.) Krista highly recommended it and rightly so. Their specialty menu for Father's Day was a hoot and delicious. Well worth a visit if your stay coincides. Sit on the glassed-in patio overlooking the bay.

Breakfast was also on par with the rest - yummy egg casserole, sausage, bagels, muffins, homemade granola (they sell it so ask for some to take home), yogurt and juices. Good jams, too. Our ferry left late in the afternoon but we were able to store our luggage under the piano. Another couple checking in early left their things in front of the fireplace.

All in all, just the experience we were looking for as this was a "splurge" for us and since it was a late 25th anniversary celebration, highly anticipated. Also, our 14 yr. old daughter was with us (I know, what? on an anniversary! but it was combining a family vacation since we're 1,000 miles away, so it was nice the french doors afforded privacy. :D ) but she was included in the same hospitality shown to us. Also, Krista immediately found her bandages for a severe skin abrasion she incurred from a snorkeling bungle on the rocks. So of course, we hated to leave.

Book with Turner Inn and have a wonderful time exploring Catalina Island!

Room Tip: I only rated the swimming pool excellent because I couldn't figure out how to remove it from con...

We stayed here 2 nights over the Memorial Day weekend (Friday and Saturday). We enjoyed it, the bed was very comfortable and the size of the room was perfect. We met some interesting folks at the wine and appetizer hour each day. My only regret is that the breakfast was served at 9 each day, would have preferred it to start earlier as the 1st morning we booked a jeep tour at 9:30 and had to eat and run and the 2nd morning we left the island and missed it all together. The b-fast we did have was delicious! Christa was very helpful in assisting us in choosing dinner spots both nights. It was so cool, we slept with the windows open. The 1st night, there was a lot of street noise, the second night (which oddly was Saturday night) was quiet, so we slept well. We did not here any noise from adjoining rooms. Would have appreciated a bar of soap at the bathroom sink and shower, rather than liquid soap, but that's just me. I would recommend it, and would return.

Room Tip: Queen and King Suites may have more noise from street, as they are at the front of house.

My wife and I took a weekend trip to Catalina during the weekend of April 12th. This was the first time away from the kids for awile so we wanted to focus on having a relaxing and enjoyable visit to the Island.

As soon as we approached the Old Turner Inn I was impressed with its charm. Our Queen Suite bedroom exceeded expectatons and their was even a little after hours Apéritifs for us to enjoy at the end of the night.

The Inn could not be closer to the action as it is a very short walk to the main strip and such favorites as the Avalon Grille and the Lobster Shack.

The three things which standout to me about the Old Turner Inn are:

Breakfast: Fabulous breakfast each morning, fruits, granola, sausages, pancakes. A nice way to start the morning and mingle with the other guests.

Guests: Our visit coincided with an annual ball which brought many visitors to the Island. We had an opporunity to share the Old Turner Inn with four other couples. Each couple was very friendly and my wife and I enjoyed visiting with each couple either at breakfast or "happy hour".

Owners: The owners went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful visit. The reservations were easy, check-in a breeze and the overall experience was very professional.

The Old Turner Inn was a hit for a young couple trying to enjoy a romantic weekend away from the kids and I highly recommend this B&B for your next visit to Avalon.

Room Tip: The Queen Suite was fantastic. Nice big shower and has a sun room over looking the street.

It's been 15 years since our last trip to Catalina and the Old Tuner Inn. We chose the Inn again since we had enjoyed our stay last time. And as anticipated, we again had a wonderful stay. Our Innkeepers, Kathleen & Christa, only not only gracious hosts they are both long time residents of the island so they can really help with planning your activities. Rooms are very comfortable and clean (and yes they have TV and free internet). Daily breakfast is made fresh everyday and is delicious. Christa makes her own granola (It's great!) and the entree's were delicious. If you like B&B's you are sure to to like this one. If you not, this is a very good one to give it try.

My wife and I now consider the owners as friends after staying our first time, and look forward to seeing them as much as the island itself. The B&B is in a perfect quiet midtown location which allows us to step out and enjoy the town in total convenience. Breakfast always is a treat, and happy hour is a great way to start the night on the town. Staying at the Old Turner Inn is the closest thing to staying at a friend's house you can get - without the guilt of not making the bed! We couldn't recommend it more.

Room Tip: The King and Queen rooms have a separate small dayroom with daybed and doors separating it from main...
