“Much better than some high end hotels”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2010

Pleasantly surprised by the high quality and cleanliness. Our room was much more plush than some boutique hotels we have stayed at in the past. And the bed and linens were so comfortable, I couldn't believe we were in a Holiday Inn.

We had requested a quiet room, and for the most part it was quiet. We brought our earplugs which drowned out most of the noise.

I was skeptical about a holiday inn near the freeway, but the staff were nice, the room was clean and nice and the hotel itself is near the historical downtown and has easy access to the freeway. On the plus side, we had requested a quiet room since we nap our toddler during the day and the room they gave us was quiet. Also, the hotel is next door to an In-N-Out Burger. On the downside, the on- site restaurant was closed for construction and they had set up continental breakfast in a small conference room (which wasn't good) and there wasn't adequate seating for the guests to eat. (2 tables in the lobby and 3 in the courtyard)

My wife and I were in Auburn in early December for a short weekend getaway, and we were still able to enjoy its fall colors. It was a great weekend getaway! We found this Holiday Inn to be nestled between the old town in Auburn and right off the I-80 Freeway--very convenient. We booked an Executive King room--very spacious and the most comfortable bed I have slept in! The guest rooms are kept in immaculate condition! The staff could not have been more friendly and gave us great directions/maps to local wineries, dining options as well as a map to see the beautiful fall colors of the Sierra Foothills. We spent only a weekend in the area and wished we had planned our stay a little longer... We were very impressed with some of these wineries. The Dono Dal Cielo’s Winery had an excellent award winning Zinfandel—very nice! There is lots to do if you enjoy the outdoors such as hiking, water rafting, golfing and skiing. We found out that the hotel offers ski and stay packages, and it may be worth looking into for our future visit there. Sugar Bowl is only 45 minutes away and the price of the package is excellent! We plan on coming back and definitely stay at this beautiful hotel! Thanks to the staff and management for a wonderful stay!

We didn't expect to find such a great hotel in such a small town and we're so pleasantly surprised. The staff was very helpful and attentive our entire stay. I think they took some earlier criticisms to heart and have turned any earlier staff problems around. It was great having a restaurant attached to the hotel (Marie Callendars). Location was a perfect homebase for exploring the historical sites in the area and for enjoying the newly launched wine tasting vineyards in the area.

The Desk Hotel staff was low key. A bit unprofessional. Didn't get that "Glad your here feeling" The rooms were clean and the housekeeping staff really had a lot on their plate. The rooms were clean and the bed wasn't bad.The Bar staff was excellent and friendly. I was happy we stopped in for a glass of wine. The Bar staff makes this Hotel worth adding to the " stop here" list! Breakfast was normal fare... Too many wonderful places to try for lunch and dinner. The wait staff was sweet and always there for the coffee refill.

If it wasn't for my GPS I would still be looking for this place. Even with GPS it was not easy. It said we were at our destination, and when I looked around I could not find the hotel, then my son spotted a little sign. (It was night time) When we found the parking lot we noticed there was an "In and Out Burger" across the parking lot, which was great with teens. A Marie Calander's restaurant is also at the Hotel. You can access it off the second floor of the hotel. The lounge is also separated from the main restaurant.

After check in it was like walking through a maze to try to find where the vending machines were, the fitness room, and our room itself. Once we roamed around a few times we finally got familiar with how the maze was laid out. The "business center" room was very nice with two computers, a copier, and I think a printer, and lots of pens, pencils and paper all for guest use. We had a room with two double beds. The room was very clean, and had a 37" or so flat screen TV with choices of games, movies, free exercise programs, and regular TV. The beds were confortable. At first I thought they were a bit firm, but in the morning I was very comfortable, and did not have any aches at all. Slept very well on the top floor (3-story), which was nice and quiet. Only complaint was no laundry bags for dirty clothes, and no table in the room for playing a game. It had a corner desk, but two cannot sit across from each other at a corner desk.

Even though the weather outside was about 40 degrees with a 15 mph wind, the pool and hot tub were in operation, and were very nice. The pool was heated enough so there was no shock getting in. The jet switch to the hot tub was 60 feet away however and it was freezing walking back after turning it on. All in all the place was very nice and I would definitely stay here again next time we visit Auburn.

This is by far one of the best Holiday Inn's I have ever stayed at. The staff is great, the room is newly renovated, with great decor, it was clean, extremely comofrtable, and the restaurant had great food.

The only problem I had was with the wireless internet, but machines will be machines.

  • Liked — The whole hotel, Its great
  • Disliked — the wireless connection
