“An Historic Trip”
Reviewed January 26, 2012

First visit. Recommended by a local winemaker. From our initial greeting to our final goodbye and promise to return, the wait staff was at once, extremely gracious and professional. The ambience is definitely wine cellar and conducive to conversation with nearby patrons. The food, selected from a short but appealing menu was superbly prepared and presented. Our short ribs were cooked to perfection and well proportioned. The well-priced wine list was not extensive but contained a broad range of choices, suitable for any palate. The pudding desserts were absolutely terrific. Our hats are off to the chef and the entire staff for a wonderful evening. Groups of up to about 20 can be privately served in a very unique adjacent area. You have to see it to believe it.

“Always Wonderful!”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

Carpe Vino has become our "go to" restaurant when we want a fabulous meal with excellent wine! A wine shop with an attached restaurant, the ambiance is excellent and there are no "add on" costs to the wine (like in a typical restaurant). The owner come to each table and have a little chat when he's in the building - which is often. We always ask our waiter for a wine recommendation - and it's been perfect every time. Their seasonal Prix Fixe dinners are so inventive and really, really good. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!

“Delightfully Different!”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

Located in what was originally a Civil War-era saloon in the heart of Old Town Auburn, Carpe Vino offers a unique setting for relishing great wine and stellar cuisine. The service was perfect. The food was unbelievable! The ambiance was rich and very satisfying. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we consider ourselves foodies. We continue to travel the world enjoying some of the most delicious foods. Carpe Vino's innovative menu is French-inspired with Mediterranean influences and flavors from around the world. We offer fine dining tempered by our Old West heritage, with many core ingredients sourced from local farmers whom the owners know by name. The menu changes virtually weekly, with new selections added based on farmer's market availability. Upwards of 40 wines are available by the glass; since Carpe Vino has a substantial wine shop business, bottles opened in the building are priced at retail plus $5. Carpe Vino is truly "one of a kind" and an oasis of civility in the heart of Gold Country. We continue to enjoy this great find!

“Okay, but I had hoped for better.”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

Stopped in at Carpe Vino for an early light dinner while enroute from Truckee to Placerville. My wife and I had dined here before and had a delightful experience in the main finding room. This time was to be a quick stop, a glass of wine with a small plate of something. We were seated in the bar area which was a bit dark and a little noisy (not unexpected). Seating was comfortable in large wicker chairs around a small circular table. We were not exactly in the path to/from the kitchen but we were clearly able to hear the orders from wait staff to chef and food prep noise was evident. The menu was limited and a bit pricey. The wine list, while decent, offered only a few wines by the glass and nothing noteworthy. We settled on a fried chicken w/biscuit accompanied by a nondescript chardonnay. Food was served promptly and nicely prepared. The portions were smallish, but it was from the bar menu and so, again, not unexpected. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Overall, not bad - just not great.

“Excellent Happy Hour!”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

$5 glass of wine and $5 appetizers from 4-6 PM. The appetizers are enough for a meal for a small person like me.
