“What a wonderful time!”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

My sister lives in Reno and I in Modesto and decided to meet halfway and spend the night in Auburn. I got the Powers Mansion Inn from Groupon and didn't know what to expect. The room was quaint and very clean. The Tea room is charming and the staff very pleasant and helpful. The lawn and the gazebo area are beautiful. Alfred was so friendly and made us feel special. The buffet at the Power Club was wonderful for dinner and the breakfast was made to order. The Cinnaman French Toast was to die for. It melted in your mouth, he explained that he made it all from scratch and you could tell it. Plenty of coffee and fresh juice. I highly recommend this place for a little getaway and even if your not close by the breakfast and dinner is worth the drive. Can't wait to go back!

The Power Mansion Inn is a cozy place to stay. It does need some tlc and updating. Antiques are beautiful, open spaces to all in the house. You need to experience it just to meet the owner, Alfred Lee. He is the most knowledgeable and entertaining man we have ever met. There is never a dull moment at breakfast, which he cooks and puts alot of personal love into. It's worth the stay!

We travel from Reno to attend concerts and events in Sacramento and we think we have found the place we want to stay from now on. The Mansion is quite charming, we are only 30 minutes from Sac and the staff and owner went out of their way to assist us in any way they can.

The Excellent
Our room came with a food credit and the quality of the food was quite good. The beers are obviously outstanding. But of all of the meals breakfast was amazing. Alfred the owner made it himself; his servers were milling around and I discovered why later. He made us all french toast out of cinnamon rolls with sausage, bacon and quiche. What a meal!!

The Good
I won't say 'The Bad' because it wasn't bad, but it might not be for everyone. If want a king bed with a spacious room and completely modern amenities you should probably keep trucking through to Sac and stay at the Hilton. If want a really cool experience in a historical building this is the place. We got the only room with a king so it was a little tight. Also, it had an old school bathroom; tub, sink and toilet are all together with no door. But that was how the building was built and Alfred and Peggy have obviously stayed true to that. I would sneak down stairs to the 'powder room' to give my wife a little privacy when needed.

There was also no one to wait on me hand and foot when I first woke up. But what I did get to do was go down to the kitchen, make a pot of coffee and check email on my tablet (free wifi) in the tea room while my wife slept in. Very relaxing :)

We had a great time and we are going to stay in a different room next time just see all of the different themes.

We spent yesterday evening at this hotel in one of the restaurants at a 50th anniversary party. The food prepared by chef Alfred was wonderful. The appetizers were hand made meatballs and chicken wings. they alone were extremely delicious but to my delight a full dinner menu was also
served. Prime rib was slowly cooked and very tender along with scalloped potatoes also hand made. the salad was to die for and I will be trying to make it this summer. Wonderful ingredients and a delicious dressing.

Alfred was FANTASTIC!! Helped us out and let us check in early so we could spend the day in San Fran. The mansion was cute and the history was informative. The Pub was excellent and amazing that he has 110 beers on tap!! We tried 17 of them and can't wait to get back there for more. Cheers to you Alfred and your awesome staff! So all you beer lovers out there should get in there and drink up.

The carpets were filthy, the rooms were small and they looked NOTHING like the pictures.
The TVs didnt work properly, and the staff had NO idea how to fix the dish.
There is NO staff during the night, if you need anything, you have to call the owner, who may or may not be able to help you.
Broken windows, hair in the tub, mattresses were old and hard... I could go on and on.
This place is a dump!
