“Mis en place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

The inn is run by two very nice extremely competent individuals (Wendy and Bruce). Wendy runs a tight ship and everything is perfect at the Inn, which is a beautiful building on beautiful grounds, perfectly manicured. Bruce is an accomplished chef. For an additional charge, he and Wendy will cook dinner for you. I highly recommend it. The Inn is literally 5 minutes from Big Trees State Part (the reason we went there) as well as several other places to visit. Overall a great place to stay. Apparently they do quite a few weddings there and I would imagine it would be a perfect place for that too.

You know you've found a fantastic b&b when you're biggest complaint is that the beds were a little too soft. Having just gotten rained out of a camping trip, maybe it's just that we were prepared for sleeping on the ground, being cold, and eating camp food. Instead my wife and I went with plan b, and treated ourselves to the little gem that is the Black Bear Inn. Bruce and Wendi, the proprietors, spare nothing to make sure your stay is comfortable and luxurious. From the delicious complimentary wine and cheese in the evening to the relaxing jacuzzi at night and finishing with the best French toast you will ever have (next time we go, we are definitely going to request one of Bruce's dinners -he is a trained chef, and very obviously knows what he is doing) in the morning, you won't be too disappointed if your camping trip gets rained out.

Very nice. Loved being away up in Arnold. Rode our motorcycle up and they were great at helping us park our motorcycle securely. Very quiet and a wonderful home. This was only our 2nd Bed and Breakfast but this was much better than staying in a hotel.

We spent a long weekend with some friends and Wendi and Bruce, our hosts, thought of everything and more. It's a beautiful, elegant with a rustic flair, and comfortable. Wonderful food and table settings. I'm planning to go back for another stay with all our friends, and perhaps just for a couple get-away soon.

We just returned from a long weekend at this Inn where 5 couples, all longtime friends, celebrated one person's BIG birthday. Black Bear Inn was selected as being that special place, as 2 of the ladies had been there before and had had a great time. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to get to Arnold from the Bay Area, so was a perfect getaway location. We had a private wine tasting, ate out at the Country Club, had a lovely walk through the giant redwoods of Calaveras Big Trees State Park, listened to a local band at an outdoors concert, and had Bruce and Wendi (the hosts) prepare a special dinner. Delicious! It's obvious Bruce is a trained chef as the presentations of the included breakfasts and afternoon wine and cheese spreads were amazing too. He is also an accomplished artist and gardener. Wendi cooks, has an eye for decorating, and keeps the place spotless. They are a friendly and thoughtful couple who obviously enjoy running a B & B together where the guests feel comfortable and pampered. We are booking again for next year! Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: All 5 rooms are basically the same layout but with different decor. One side of the hall or the othe...

We celebrated a birthday at the Inn with 5 couples. Wendi and Bruce went way beyond in making sure our time was special. The Inn is impeccably kept, the grounds beautiful and the warmth of our hosts a true treasure. Besides the most wonderful breakfasts, and lovely wine/cheese on the patio, Bruce made us a birthday dinner on Sat. night that rivaled any 5 star restaurant. It was so good, we 5 couples have booked for this time next year. I can't say enough good about it.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely, each with a door to the outside common areas.

WE live in a wonderful retirement community, but once a month, we like to escape to B & B within 2 to 3 hours drive from Davis, CA. As we love to explore different locals, it is rare for us to stay at a B & B where we have stayed before. This place is well worth a second visit. The rooms and common areas are excellent and the breakfast are amazingly tasty and artfully presented. Of the 40 B & Bs we have stayed, this in the top 3.

Room Tip: WE stayed in the Calaveras room which is ADA equipped and ideal for Seniors.
