Don't waste your time. Our waitress (young brunette girl) was lovely and accommodating (seemed like she knew everything was awful and felt bad), but other times we have come here we have received neglectful, lazy service from college kids who are just trying to make a buck off you. The noodles (and yes i call them noodles because they tasted like they were out of a ramen noodle box) were overcooked, sauce watery, and chicken bland. My husband got the bolognese- save yourself 30 bucks and pick up some hamburger helper. It smelled of sewage in the restaurant and our cocktails were terrible (10 dollars for an overly sweet, weird mix of flavors). Finally, we have about had it with the snobby, rude owner. He doesn't treat his guests with respect, he makes you feel like you are intruding on his space. Do I even need to mention the terrible bread, or have i made my point? (The menu states that you will receive an "abruzzi bread selection" but when we asked our waitress she told us that they get their baguettes from ramones). Oh, and the scallops tasted like they had been frozen. DON'T give these people any more money! They have skated by long enough being greedy [--] who give poor quality food and service to customers- and they don't give a [--].

Can you give negative stars? That would be great. Don't go, just never ever go!
Lets start with the service. The servers don't want to be there. They make it very obvious. The food is confusing. Why call it a ceasar when its really just mayo sploppled onto lettuce? What was on that antipasto platter? Why is the cheese so chewy?

Here's a hint for the staff...when you have a gas bag guest at the entry who is holding court with his cronies waiting for a table or a friend or a personality and he's annoying people so badly they eat faster to get away from him, move him! The 12 year old maitre child was encouraging him, I almost pepper sprayed them both. The locals call it character, I call if justifiable homicide.

And then there's cleanliness...they voted against it. The ceiling tiles are not painted, we checked. It really is grease. Any votes on whats most disgusting? We can't decide if it was the dishwasher who was molesting the business end of the kitchen implements or the food expediter who was wiping his sweaty grumpy face with the towel he uses to wipe the plate edges. I'd rather have a little sauce on the edge thank you.

I'm going to be nice and not mention the hair in the menu. Nor will I slip up and say anything about the really old, sorta sweat sock smell.

For this area, this is pricey, for anywhere, this is something to make even a marine come up with new words.....and they aren't polite.

Have spaghetti at home instead.....

I like to to bring a friend here for a "mini-occasion", as it has an interesting stone-and-wood-with-sparkley-lights romantic basement atmosphere,I can either get dressed up or not, the wine list is good, and I have several favorite dishes. Their scallops on a bed of spinach and mushrooms is worth a return trip. Middle price range, matched to the somewhat-but-not-extremely upscale menu. Friendly, helpful service.

On a tip from our fishing guide, we made a reservation from the river and headed toward Arcata to Abruzzi. Its located in the basement of a building in the town square- a happening place on a Friday night in a college town. We enjoyed our dinner and enjoyed getting there. You can tell there is pride ownership and they run a tight ship to maintain consistency and great service. I was truly impressed with the staff who all seemed to work so well together and helped each other out to make sure everyone was happy. Kudos to Jin and Ben, our host and server, in particular. We came in in late, tired, and slightly disheveled after a day long fishing trip and they made us feel right at home. Good wine list and many bottles open to try that are not of the by-the-glass list, so ask. The filet was amazing! The carbonara, while not your typical preparation, was wonderful. Nice to have bread and salad come with your entree's for a change! Great ambiance, lighting, bar, and warmth. It could be kid-friendly, but we didn't see any folks with children on our Friday night. Lots of couples, and families ith college-age kids. Would go back in a heat beat!!

Abruzzi's has been our favorite place to go for a number of years. However our last 3 times out have been quite disappointing. The service has been less than engaging, the portions quite small, and we spent last night suffering from indigestion. We have spent many romantic evenings there, but I think last night will be our last.
