“Carne Asada Tacos-Get Them”
Reviewed October 15, 2013 via mobile

As you can surmise from the title, the Carne Asada tacos are amazing. They're simple, just marinated meat rolled in corn tortillas, and yet so incredible. A good sized portion of tasty pico de gallo does come with the tacos, along with killer re-fried beans, and rice. Everything is homemade. I tried my friend's pozole- wow, incredible. Everyone in my party raved about their food, and we loved our server. Fantastic food and service is greatly appreciated! Thank you, Manuel's!

“Why do locals love this place so much?”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is the classic hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. The menu is pretty standard and quite limited. Evening specials are different each day of the week and they repeat the same every week; they can be a good choice. Standard servings are large, so the smaller (and cheaper) lunch specials make more sense in the middle of the day. The food is usually reliable, rather than outstanding, although the beans and rice do vary a bit. It's often busy, so there can be quite a wait, and the tables are awfully close together. The staff are super-friendly, but they don't always get back to you with the check when you really want them to. So why is this place so popular? I can't really say. It's just a good time, good food, good people, a real local hangout. You'll enjoy it too if you don't go there expecting a gourmet experience.

“Good Mexican food”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Very popular place , expect to wait for a table at night , normally there will be people waiting outside. Get there early if you don't like to wait. I'm retired so I like lunch time less busy and still good food . The big salad is great to share. If you go at night be sure to check the special for that day normally a great choice .

“Very crowded, very loud, disappointing food”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

This restaurant is very popular with locals; we had to wait more than 45 minutes for a table. Tables are very close together; it is a very noisy place, not conducive to conversation. Standard Mexican items--cheese enchiladas, burritos, tamales, tacos, chiles rellenos, beans, rice, etc.--are available in combination plates and a la carta. The food is nothing special and more expensive than in comparable restaurants. (1 cheese enchilada, $5.25; 1 chile relleno, $5.95; combination#5, $12.95.) Service was good but the rest was disappointing.

“Good 'n' Plenty Local Bistro”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

The other reviewers are right on when they say crowded and busy. To that, I would add noisy. Despite our 7:30 reservations made 2 days previously, we still had to wait about 15 minutes. Normally, we don't like the trendy yuppie scene and would have been long gone. But several folks told us the food was outstanding, and it was. Despite the almost frantically busy atmosphere, the service was adequate. We ordered the red snapper special, and we both left with enough for a second meal. After the fresh chips and salsa, a gourmet salad with avocado, olives and garbanzo beans over traditional greens began the meal. The snapper had a delicious coating over which a savory, jalapeno spiced sour cream sauce was served. The wild rice base was nicely flavored, and the food was presented with an attractive garnish of orange slices and parsley. The perfect finale was the ice cream, offered with a choice of three flavors. This was included in the price of the special which we thought was quite reasonable. From the 101 Freeway exit, take the Seacliff State Beach exit west (dandy oceanfront RV sites, BTW). Turn left just before entry into the state beach. The restaurant is on the west side of the street, about a block from the turn. It's in Aptos to the south of Santa Cruz. This is definitely not a good place to go for those on a diet. Enjoy!
