I have no idea what some of the negative reviewers are talking about with regards to this hotel. It's GREAT!
This week was my third stay over the past 6 years at this property, and they came through again with flying colors!
Clean rooms, Comfortable beds, Convenient location, and Courteous staff... what more could you want from a hotel that is (yes I timed it three mornings in a row...) a 6 min. walk to the front gates of Disneyland! I’m not sure what the other negative reviewers were expecting...If you want a 5 Diamond /Triple Star Resort/Water park/Spa then shell out the big $$$$ and stay at the Grand Californian. --but you’ll have a farther walk to Disneyland than we did :)
I stayed there this week with my three children ages 5,7,& 9. In the past when the kids were younger we would come back for quiet afternoon naps and then return in the early evening because the hotel is so close to the parks. As always, the room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It came with a small microwave and fridge. There is a 7-11 like convenience store downstairs complete with an in house coffee bar (think small Pete’s Coffee). Yes, the elevators are dated. but they are clean, and they work...and folks, if they don’t work fast enough for you, it’s a three story building, you could always just (gasp) use the stairs? --With that said, other reviewers have mentioned trying the get a room at the front of the building to avoid a long walk at the end of the day...Seriously!?! The property is not that big. Please ignore those reviewers. You’ll laugh when you get there and realize they are lamenting an extra 200 yards of walking. I do however agree with the tip of being toward the front top floor to get a better view of the fireworks though...
I took the advice of other reviewers and brought a box of cereal and jug of milk to feed the kids in the mornings before we left. Yes, the free “breakfast” is not much more than free coffee and danish/donuts but if you REALLY need more there’s an IHop and a McDonald’s two doors down in either direction.
The bathrooms were clean. A bit dated yes, but everything works so where’s the problem? Others also complained about paying for parking. --Listen, ALL the hotels situated across the street from Disneyland charge for parking, and $9/day is a lot less than the $16/day Disney charges you to park.
To sum it up. This is a GREAT property for families looking for a clean, safe place to flop between busy days at the parks. The price is more than fair for what you get, and honestly, you could not be closer to the front doors of the parks. We stayed in room 381 on the top floor this time, and sat in our room and watched the fireworks at night resting our tired legs after a long day at the parks.
