“As always the Howard Johnson was amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2010

We have stayed at this hotel in Feb of 2009 so when we were planning our vacation to Disneyland for 2010 it was a no brainer on where to stay...the Howard Johnson. It has a great pool/play area for the kids as well as the on site arcade was great amusement for the kids. It was only a short walk to the park each morning, easy access to several fast food restaurants (McDonalds) as well as some nice sit down restaurants (Mimi's). I will for sure be staying at this hotel again in the future.

All of these glowing reviews must have been written by people who are hearing impaired. We slept horribly and we weren't even in the building closest to the highway. We had to crank the ac/heater on high to try to drown out the noise but to no avail. When 18 wheelers drive by it felt like the room was shaking.
The maid service was poor, too. The first two days no one came to clean our room. We had to get towels at the front desk. By the third day we just left the "do not disturb" sign on the handle.
Even though the other hotels closer to DL entrance got poorer reviews I would gladly stay there than at the Howard Johnson again. The highway noise was too much.
On a positive note front desk was very nice and the room was very clean.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your most recent stay with us! We're very sorry to hear that you had a less than restful stay with us, and we appreciate you letting us know. Since your experience is definitely not typical and absolutely not in line with the standards that we hold ourselves too, we would love to have the opportunity to look into this matter more closely so that we can talk to our Housekeeping Staff and inspect the room that you stayed in to find out what might have gone wrong during your stay . Please email us at stay@hojoanaheim.com with the last name of the lead passenger on the reservation and your dates of stay. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your help with this!

If you're going to Disneyland we cant recommend the Howard Johnson enough. Rooms are large which was great as we have 3 teenage sons. Didn't think we would use the pool but it's heated and was great at the end of the day. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the room was very clean. Highly recommended

What a disappointment. Hey reception staff it's recommended that you greet your guests with courtesy and the occasional smile when checking in.
Hey concierge staff .. would be nice if you would organise to get our luggage to our room rather than watch us struggle with our bags up two flights of stairs after the 14 hour flight!
Rooms average , need a refurb and freshen up. Smelt musty
.All "guests" in our party received a strange rash from the bed linen or towels
No ATM within "resort" and no cash out over reception desk . Only solution offered by staff was to try another hotel or walk the 1 k into Downtown Disneyland
Concierge desk less than helpful with advice on transport options into L.A.
Good location is best feature
Better option would be Marriott Fairfield for service and a pleasant stay.

We stayed here for thanksgiving weekend and must say it was a great choice. We generally stay further down harbor blvd closer to the walkway to disney but settled on HOJO for the price. Staff was great, we arrived around around 1 pm and figured it would be too early for check in but went to the desk so we could leave our car and head to the park, and they said our room was ready. We had three rooms reserved for the whole family and they kept us all next to each other which was a delight. We were on the top floor of bldg 1 facing the freeway and honestly we had no issues with noise. Rooms were large and being on the top floor we had vaulted ceilings with windows at the top sides acting as skylights so was nicely lighted during the day. The gift shop was very nice as well and not overpriced on food items as I've seen at other hotels. Kids really wanted to go swimming but was too chilly out so maybe next summer. I would definately stay here again. Walk to the park was not bad at all, about 5-10 mins and plenty of restaurants along the way. You cant go wrong with this hotel.

THIS PLACE IS THE DIAMOND of anaheim! we took an annual trip to disney, and decided to give the new kids suite a try which is pirate themed and decorated in rich colors, with 2 sides. if you cant afford 300 a night at a disneyland resort hotel, then do HOJO! it will live up to ALL the same, minus the disney magic but thats what the parks for :) i agree disney hotels have added touches of magic like mickey heads and such, and i love them, however they are steeply priced. so we chose hojo this year. OMG amazing! we got there and checkin was so FAST and simple. we used the entertainment rate which made our room price only $99.00 a night! wow. the property first of all is beautiful, and the little store inside is very convenient! we made our way up to our room, and opened the door my jaw dropped! im a little picky with hotels. but WOW doesnt even sum it up! this place was GREAT and the most amazing deal EVER! when we first walked in, i noticed the beautiful colors and nice decore. to the right was the first bathroom. when you walk into the room you are in the kids side of the suite. there is a bunk bed, and a pull out sleeper sofa, balcony, bathroom, flatscreen, you name it! the if you take the door into the other side you are in the king room, a kind bed, beautiful and plush, SO comfyyyy! flatscreen again! fridge, micro, and a nice coffee maker, plus another bathroom. this made it flawless getting ready in the morning for us all. this place is rich and bold, and makes a cute statement at the same time. SO incredibly clean. we went out on the balcony on the king side. its a highway view, some ppl complain about the noise but didnt bother us, but u CAN see fireworks for disney from them. we tried out the pools, very nice pool areas! it was chilly but we did get in for a bit and the hot tubs we did! when we went to disney the next morning it was a VERY simple 10 min walk if even that honestly. :) so simple. we didnt get to try mimis cafe but intend to this next trip! i cant even sum up how AMAZING this place and the DEAL is! i could never go anywhere else besides here or a disney resort which is a little too much for my blood after finding this diamond! maids kept the room clean and stocked with towels too! some ppl complain about the shower head pressure here but it wasnt an issue at all for me. :) i PROMISE that i will take photos of it this next time we go in a few months! i did last time but they werent good pics and you couldnt see enoughl.

I recently took my kids (boys ages 6 & 10) to Disneyland and found a substantial discount for this hotel on www.mousesavers.com. The room rate was cheaper than the Disneyland Park Hopper tickets we bought.

The Hotel:
Although the place is old - it was comfortable and the location is FANTASTIC. We were able to walk across the street each day to Disneyland and could see the fireworks from the hotel. We hit the hot tub each night and the boys loved getting wet in the character fountains and then climbing back in the warm water of the hot tub. The hotel has a great little mini water park to play in during the day but we never came back to the hotel before it closed bc my kids didn't want to leave Disneyland until night time. They have a great little store where we bought milk & coffee cream for our room. (The hotel DOES NOT OFFER BREAKFAST) The store also has last minute souvenirs, which I used to get my sister something as we were leaving and I was surprised how reasonably priced the item was. We had a room with a fridge and had breakfast (cereal, raisin bread, muffins, etc) in our room each morning before we hit Disneyland so that we could be at the gates when it opened. We brought our own snacks, juice boxes, wine, crackers, and cheese to snack on at the end of every day. We had a GREAT time here and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future.

The Room:
Be prepared, if you like a firm bed, our room had a puffy pillow top mattress and I couldn't wait to come back to my firm bed bc my back was aching from the soft mattress. Bc the room is old I made my husband specifically check for bedbugs (where they like to hide during the day) and he didn't find any.
The carpets seemed pretty old/dingy so bring slippers for everyone or extra socks
The TV is not a flat screen, and had limited channels but we were not in our room very long so that really didn't matter us.
I LOVED the safe included in the room and used it to lock up our portable DVD players, netbook, camcorder, and jewelery every day.
I was surprised to see an individual cup of coffee maker (kind of like the Kureg machines) which I'd never seen or used before but it was very simple to use.

Hope you and your family have as great of a time as me and my family. :)
