We booked this property based on the reveiws on this website and one or two others, and it was a good call. We also had two other families book with us based on our suggestion and we all were happy. I liked the property mainly as 1. the rooms were clean and comfortable, good air flow/air conditioning, good beds, and extremely quiet....these must have high quality soundproofing. I think the room above us was vacant as we never heard anything up there.
2. good space in rooms, good size bath room (we had a two chlidren with us and no problem)
3. easy property to park at, walk to and from, and get around to pools, front desk, laundry etc.
4. wonderfull location next door to a quality restaurant, and many restaurants within a 5-10 min walk; of course disney really was literally across the street, although every hotel I have ever seen advertised in Anaheim claims to be virually in the Disneyland parking lots.
5. nice pools, warm, clean, and a nice kiddy pool
6. a very nicely designed property with trees, flowers and fountains, and night lighting really made for a nice atmosphere.
I really had no negative comments. I guess the rooms near the I-5 could be loud but this seems to be a very quiet property; it may help that we were there in a slower period the end of September. I would return again and the room rate was very good value. It felt like a hotel room but was more convient like a motel.

After reading all the great reviews here, my expectations were pretty high for this motel even though I am accustomed to staying in more high-end hotels. I know Anaheim is not the world capital of luxury hotels, but I'm skeptical that this is actually the second-best hotel in the city after Disney's Grand Californian (which I stayed at early this year).
There are a number of hotels closer than this one to the park, although the walk isn't bad. I agree with other reviewers that the balconies are useless--you would never sit out above the freeway, even in a "park view" room, so it's a waste. By the way, park view means you can see the monorail when it comes around. That's about it.
If you have very young children or are disabled, there might be better choices: no easy stroller/wheelchair access to the lobby that I saw (the motel is a collection of buildings, and the lobby is a separate building). Also the room was a decent size, but could've used a love seat or something else besides the hard chairs--which had wood around the top part that hit my kids right in the back of the head when on their booster seats. I was also constantly worried about my youngest hitting his head on the bottom of the sink outside the bathroom, not the safest design for toddlers.
Towels were OK--looked as though they'd just replaced the wash cloths with new ones--but the sheets seemed a little funky, not quite fresh smelling. The kids "splash area" at the pool is very small. Freeway noise is constant, but didn't really bother us.
The room seemed generally clean, and the air conditioning worked OK. We were disappointed in housekeeping, though, when we left the first day for over four hours from 9 to 1:15--and came back to find our room hadn't been made up. They called when our kids were napping to say they had to make up the room soon becuase housekeepers were leaving in a couple of hours. It worked out in the end, but was a hassle. There is no sign to leave on the door to request service.
I think this hotel is a pretty good value at just under $100 per nite, but next time if I'm trying to save money by not staying at one of the Disney hotels, I will check out others that are as close or closer to the park. Either that, or cough up the extra money for Disney.

We stayed here from 28 September to 5 October. Prior to check-in Bill Cleaver was very accommodating with our special request for a smoke-free room. Check-in was speedy and we were in our room within ten minutes of parking the car. We noticed our bathroom sink didn't drain the water away and this was fixed within one hour. We were placed in a disabled room very close to the pool area. This gave us plenty of room but it did have it's drawbacks. Firstly, there is no bench space in the bathroom so we couldn't fully unpack our toiletries. On one occasion my make-up bag fell off the narrow ledge and shattered some of my powders etc. (very disappointing and cost me about $60.00 to replace). I agree with a previous post regarding the internet connection area on the bedside table. It should be located on the desk. The rooms are attended to daily in a professional manner. Having a security guard patrolling the grounds is very comforting also. We loved the pool areas and when the children's pool area got too crowded we went to the other pool located at the rear of the property, which was very quiet. The laundry has ample machines for washing and drying clothes. The shop is handy too. One word of warning DO NOT get a room on a lower floor. The noise level on some nights was unbearable. Some nights we had children stomping above us until 11.00pm and we considered checking out a couple of times because of this. The showers from other rooms are very noisy also and most mornings this was what woke us up. On one occasion when we showered, the water was only just warm enough, but this only happened once. Overall, we felt we got good value for money, compared to many other hotels we stayed at in the USA. If we ever came back to Disneyland, we would stay again, but only if we could be guaranteed a room on the uppermost level near the front pool. One more thing, the pillows are terrible - very hard - I didn't use a pillow the whole time.

Our family stayed at the HoJo in Anaheim from the 5th to the 15th of September, 2004 and would highly recommend it. The rooms were comfortable even after 10 nights, the pools were always clean and our son had a ball at the kids pool. We were a bit concerned on arrival due to how close our room was to the Santa Anna Fwy however our fears vanished as soon as we shut our door, great sound deadening! Found it to be an excellent base for our trip and the free parking for guests made our life a bit easier with the rental. I was amazed to read that some people use the ART bus to Disneyland, it only takes about 10 minutes to walk with a five year old in 95 degree heat. If we get the chance to return to Disneyland we will be staying at the Howard Johnson.

What A Great choice we made in selecting the HOJO. We were in Tower 1 with a balcony facing the Disney Park from the 9/9 to the 19/9, what a delight in watching the fireworks from our balcony. The service from the lobby staff, the room service staff & gift shop attendants was excellent. Always pleasant and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious for 2 adults & 2 energetic kids and always well maintained. The pool area was great after our short 5-10 minute walk from Disneyland. Great easy to use laundry on site was a bonus. You just have to go to Mimi's. Great food & service. Will stay here again when we come back in a couple of years time(promised the kids). Thank You for making our Holiday a Holiday to Remember!!!

My wife and I stayed in this hotel 22-25 September 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We arrived late at night and found the reception staff very helpful. Room was in building 1 on level 3, and was large with great facilities, and was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is great for visiting Disneyland and only a five or ten minute walk away. Great swimming pools and a well-stocked shop as part of the facilities. Our plane home did not leave until the evening, and we did not have to book out until 3pm. This was at no extra charge. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you management and staff for a most enjoyable experience.

We decided to stay here in early September for 3 nights after reading the reviews, and weren't disappointed. The staff were v friendly and were especially helpful with directions when we called after taking a wrong turn off the freeway. (A standard feature of our trips abroad, it has to be said.) Our 3-year-old loved the children's pool area and our room was huge. Didn't notice any traffic noise due to the air con and our exhaustion after the long Disneyland days. Would highly recommend it.
