“Good value...not the best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2004

My small family of three ( gorgeous wife, 11 year old daughter, and myself) stayed at the HoJo Plaza Anaheim from April 25th-30th 2004. Lets just set the record straight right now: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LUXURY HOTEL....KEEP LOOKING! This hotel is set in a modest yet adorable family-style setting with few of the costly amenities associated with the larger hotel chains. The rooms were clean, quaint, and roomy yet you never felt like they went out of their way to modernize during the renovation in 2000. Our room definitely had a "disco 70's" appeal. The pool area was beautiful and opened promply at 8am every morning and was usually still full at midnight when they closed. Few, if any hotels these days are willing to accommodate their guest with pool hours stretching to midnight which allows even the adults to enjoy a lil jacuzzi action long after the sun goes down. THE WALK FROM OUR HOTEL ROOM TO THE GATE ENTRANCE OF DISNEYLAND WAS ONLY 8 MINUTES. Brisk walkers can cut a few minutes off that time and larger families with multiple children should still have "lively feet" after a slow stroll down Harbor Blvd. The main office was prompt during check-in and even had our room ready 2 hours early since we arrived at 11am. The manager assured us we'd have our desired room before 1pm and he did! The front desk was even pleasant enough to find me a local barber shop and map out its location for me. All in all Id say this is a perfect lil getaway hotel for the budget conscious traveller, but dont expect all the frills associated with many of the other HoJo properties. I had one complaint and one complaint only....THEY HAD NO CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST! Take into consideration that the average family of three spends roughly 20-35 dollars on a quick breakfast meal. Now consider this..add that "20-35 bucks" onto an upgraded hotel where the continental breakfast is FREE and suddenly you'd have a better overall value than the HoJo Anaheim has to offer and probably get a nicer hotel! Just something to keep in mind. I have a few digital photos of the pool and jacuzzi. Just drop me an email and Id be happy to share them with you all. Any other questions, just feel free to ask!

We chose the HoJo because of the positive feedback on this website and we weren't disappointed! This is a well-priced moderate hotel that offers good value for the dollar. Grounds are immaculate, staff courteous and you can't beat the proximity to Disneyland! No more than a 7 min walk, so no shuttles to wait for or pay for. There's a good-sized main pool with separate small spray water park and wading pool for toddlers, plus a deeper pool further back on the property. We were in building 6 facing the back pool so very quiet. If you faced the main pool I would imagine the noise level would be higher as its open late. Good for teens but maybe not families early to bed? If you like to sleep in, don't get a room with the "rainbow" window as the room gets light early. Not a problem with our kids though. We ate at Mimi's next door almost every day. Excellent food, great service and servings large enough that we split every meal. Kid meals include beverage and dessert. Great espresso bar. You should pack water for Disneyland. The four of us went through 30 bottles (500 ml) in 6 days. Costs $1.50 at gift shop, $2.75 each at Disneyland. Go early to the park, come back for an afternoon swim, then back for the evening and you'll get on way more rides plus you'll avoid the high temperatures 90-106 degrees every afternoon. Hope this helps!

I actually stayed here in April-May of 2003. I was a bit nervous at first arrival, but my fear was soon supressed by the wonderful staff. We got a room facing Disneyland. Right out or balcony was a beautiful view of Matterhorn Mountain. Very large room. A refrigerator was a big plus, since we were there for 8 days. Not a far walk from Disney, but at the end of the day it feels like it goes on forever. It takes about 5 min. to Disneyland. I'm actually going back to Disneyland June 3, 2004. And have already booked my room with HoJo. Noise wasn't too much of a problem, I was so tired at the end of the day, I didn't hear a thing at night. As for breafast, they don't offer it free but yu were able to buy fruit and drinks and goodies in the gift shop. Overall everything was WAY above what I was expecting. I loved it, and I recommend it to ANYONE!!

Need to apologize here for the hasty review of HoJo's re: handicapped accessibility. The Manager has been more than helpful in accomodating us this summer, and the hotel has some really good renovations planned for this summer. The changes planned will make HoJo's not only handicapped accessible, but also handicapped "friendly" - there is a difference. Again, the bad review was done too fast and with too little thought.

We stayed at the HJ Anaheim from 3/31/04 thru 4/5/04. The rooms were spacious, but noisy from the adjacent highway. The walk to Disneyland took only a few minutes. The staff was very helpful with maps, tours, etc. We took a bus tour to the San Diego Zoo and it couldn't have gone more smoothly (they picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel). No need to get a rental car if staying here and going to Disney and other popular California sites. Would stay here again, but request a room away from the highway.

Arrived on 3rd April after midday, checkin was quick and service great. Our room was spacious with a view towards pool and able to see the fireworks in the Evening. Traffic noise was very minimal when you had your balcony room door closed. Laundry facilities are excellent $1.25 load, drying 1.25 50 minutes. The shuttle at 3.00 day each is really very good and runs until 12.20am each night. Even if you walk lucky if it is 7minutes. McDonalds close, Mimis cafe & Millies restaurant all great for a good meal. If it is busy in Anaheim you may find yourself waiting for a table for up to 20minutes is only complaint. Hotel Service for any help or questions was excellent.

I used this site to plan a 4 day trip to Disneyland during Spring Break. I carefully chose Howard Johnson based on the reviews. We didn't want to "go all out" on this trip as we had made 2 previous trips to DisneyWorld recently. We made the right choice. The room was large, clean (the 2 sinks in the bathroom are wonderful) and faced one of the quiet garden pools. Our building had a very nice laundry room on the first floor. Just remember to purchase detergent, etc. in the gift shop because it is not available in the laundry room. The 10 minute walk was really easy (our children are 7 and 9) and much quicker than the shuttles. The noise from I-5 is the only negative aspect about this hotel. I was really worried about this but got used to it quickly.
