Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground

We stayed at the Howard Johnson for one week during the end of April and the beginning of May and it pretty much lived up to expectations from all the reviews on this site.

The walk is very short to Disneyland - 7 minutes is about right, maybe a little longer with smaller children. The staff is always friendly and was willing to help us when we needed directions. You can catch a good view of the Disneyland fireworks on the west side of Howard Johnson near the parking lot. The property is well maintained and the room was nice and clean.

There were a couple downsides to the hotel. The biggest one is that there is no microwave in most rooms. That would have come in handy when we had leftover dinner from the night before. The front desk told us that there are none because the power would be overloaded in the rooms - hope they resolve this issue soon. The second thing is minor - I didn't like the bath soap provided by the hotel. Next time I would bring my own.

Microwave and soap aside, I would stay in the HoJo again.

In terms of food around the hotel, Mimi's was an excellent choice for breakfast and dinner. Didn't go there for lunch but you definitely get full value for what you pay. We also tried Millie's which is part of Fairfield by Marriott (I think) and close to Howard Johnson. It was horrible. The food was cold and did not look appetizing when it came to the table. We also walked to GardenWalk which is a relatively new cluster of restaurants. It's about a 15 or so minute walk from Howard Johnson and the Cheesecake Factory was fantastic.

Our family has stayed at the HOJO Anaheim numerous times over the years and we have yet to be disappointed with our stay.

The front desk staff has been helpful with our reservations prior to arrival and their valued service has continued during our stay(s). They are very informative about the area and answer your requests to the best of their ability. It is also comforting to know to observe security patrolling the property site. The grounds of the HOJO are immaculate and are well maintained on a daily basis as we have observed staff working the grounds and cleaning the pool/area prior to the pool opening of each day.

We have stayed in building number # 1 and number # 2 during our visits. This year, we stayed in building # 2 as very little time is spent in the room. The rooms are large and clean. Despite being in building # 2 we were fortunate to have a pool side room with a slight disney view and were able to gaze at the nightly disney fireworks from our balcony. We were disappointed to learn that their second pool was under construction and would not be open until the following week(s). Upon entering our room, a letter was left advising us that construction would be taking place and at what times. We only encountered construction noise one day out of our seven night stay.
This was not a great problem for our family, as our children loved using the other available pool. It was not over crowded, clean and heated pool. It was a great way to relax our sore feet after a day at Disneyland.

No matter what hotel we stay at, we always seem to encounter a problem with not enough towels for our family. This again happened during our stay. Each evening upon our arrival back to the hotel, we would have to stop or phone the front desk to ask for more towels. Our request for towels was answered immediately, sometimes receiving the towels reaching our room before we did.

Prior to our check out, we made a return visit to our hotel room. Only to find the maid already in our room and cleaning. The beds were made and to my surprise found that she was dusting out the inside of the cabinet drawers. Over the course of the our many visits to this hotel, our room(s) were always cleaned promptly and never did we come back to our room to find that it wasn't cleaned.

We have always found our room(s) in both buildings to be comfortable and clean; meeting the needs of our family. A great feature was having two sinks in the bathroom. Its a great asset for a larger family in the morning that is getting ready for their day.

It has become our ritual to start our mornings at Mimi's Cafe. Prices are adequate and portions are large. Rather than ordering a smaller food item from the children's menu for our children. We found that ordering an adult breakfast and splitting it between our children was more filling and saved a few $$.

It would be great if HOJO would offer a complimentary breakfast to its hotel guests as other hotels do at the neighbouring Disney hotels.

We have recommended this hotel over the years and will continue to do so in the future, mainly because of the quality and comfort that it offers to its guests. Amenities offered and because of the close walking distance to Disneyland.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Hojo from March 28 - April 3. We had a Premium Disney room on the 7th floor of building 1. The room was huge and the beds were super comfortable.

We arrived early and although our room was not ready they gladly held our luggage until the room was ready. The gift shop was a fabulous place to buy breakfast and snacks and the prices were very reasonable.

The staff was always willing to help out and it should be noted that the food at Mimi's is awesome.

My family of 4 just returned from a 3 night stay at Ho Jo's Anaheim and I've nothing but good things to report. We had a premium, double queen, Disney view room on the 4th floor and found the rooms, quite adequate - and we were even able to fit in a (free) roll-away bed in the alcove beside the balcony door so the kids could have their own beds. Beds were incredibly comfy and it was wonderful to sink into them at the end of a 14 hour day at Disney! Loved having the additional sink - made evening and morning prep a bit easier. We didn't use the pools or store as we opened and closed the park each day and really only used the hotel to sleep. Grabbed bfast at the McD's along the way and off we went! Truly a great find and we will return and hopefully score one of the coveted 7th floor rooms next time. BTW - the Entertainment rate rocks! Be sure to check out the Ho Jo's boards at http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/ I got a lot of good hints and tips here.

We were very pleased with all aspects of the hotel. No problems with checking in, very helpful and polite. Given room in Building 1, 7th floor. Got into the room and were very pleased. Full sized fridge and plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. Large, bright and airy room. The view from the balcony was wonderful. We looked straight out over the two Disney resorts and had a wonderful view of the fireworks. Short walk to the parks. Large pool and kids pool. Plenty of comfortable padded loungers and pool towels. Would definitely recommend this hotel to families and couples alike. We suggest you ask for Building 1, 7th floor, Disney side.

Stayed April 5th thru 8th 2008

I booked this hotel based on the reviews on the trip advisor and the mousesavers.com website. I was thrilled with this hotel.

First we booked the only queen, queen suite. It had two bathrooms, refrigerator, microwave and a long bar area to unload all our Disney purchases. The beds were very soft and comfortable, the only disappointment was that the towels were thin and not very soft. But the extra room and bathrooms were worth the higher price then booking a double/double room. I did not hear any freeway noise that others have complained of. But going to Disneyland for 10 hours, using the pool, put us right to sleep.

Next the location is great! We timed from our hotel room to the Disney gates. With the only light we had to cross, the trip only took nine minutes. This is with two kids ages 5 and 7. I do recommend taking a stroller for the kids late at night.

In the morning we walked the opposite direction from Disneyland and went to Starbucks coffee. The hotel even suggested going to Vons to get snacks as they were cheaper than the hotel. Nice suggestion!!! and only a 5 minute drive from the hotel.

The pool and spa were packed because of Spring Break, but we met a lot of nice people and had no problem getting in the spa or some lawn chairs to sit in. The garden pool was closed for repair, but since we had kids even if it was opened, we still would of use the pool up front.

All in all, I would book this hotel again! Nice staff, easy walk to Disneyland, and a great location.

The hotel is across the street from disney, it is a 10min walk to the park so not that bad, we found the walk there in the morning was easy, but after a long day in the park it is a little harder, just too tired.. Our room was a little out dated alot of orange and brown looked 70's, and the bathroom was real small. But the beds were fantastic sooooo comfortable, and we had a great view of disney land, best view for the fireworks. . We were in tower 1 on the 6thfloor, we really did'nt have any problems with noise. Nice hotel , it could use a new look though.. Over all very happy good stay.. will come back..
