This hotel was kid friendly with a cute Pirate pool. It was an easy walk to and from Disneyland. The rooms were very clean and neat, and fair priced for a Disneyland area hotel. Watched the fireworks from the property, and it was great. It's even close enough to hear the music that Disneyland plays along with the fireworks.

Room Tip: I like the rooms in the garden area - building 6. They're only 2 stories high and there is a lo...

Overall, I loved this place and would definitely go back, but I'd book further ahead to make sure that we didn't have a room overlooking the freeway (the top floor is the worst, because the skylights make it impossible to soundproof the room), or one next to a generator (building 4 #2017, I think). Apparently there are rooms with a view of the park (and the fireworks). I'd like one of them next time! Of the two types of rooms we saw, I prefer the one in building 4 overlooking the pool. Just a tad bigger. Shame the one overlooking the noisy freeway had a balcony but this one didn't.

The pools were great. Separate pool areas for kids and grown ups is a great idea. The grown up pool is smallish but very pretty, surrounded by greenery and flowers. The kids pool with the pirate theme and slide is super-fun and there's a perfectly placed hot tub for the grown ups to sit, chat and supervise. The kids pool is also a good place to watch the fireworks. Even in late February, we swam everyday. My favourite thing about this hotel is how nice everyone is. Oh wait... the sheets. I wanted to steal the lovely quality sheets (but didn't). And the beds are super-comfy. And everything feels spotlessly clean. Mimi's, the restaurant across the street, is pretty nice but not amazing. No room service but a little shop that sells cereal, milk, basics, etc. 8 minutes walk to the Disneyland gate is awesome. We came home after lunch, as someone suggested, because the park is way too busy then. No pharmacy or grocery store nearby. Overall though we had a really good experience and Jag, the towncar driver the hotel recommended, is fantastic. Way better (and faster) than talking a shuttle from the airport.

Room Tip: Book ahead facing the park 4 floors up or more. If that's not available, book a room facing the...

We essentially picked HoJo's due to the exceptional deal we got through Expedia with our flights and if we had our time over again would not bother looking elsewhere - this place is family holiday heaven.

We arrived at 8:10am on a Saturday and we were greeted by Art at the front desk and it was like we were long lost friends. So welcoming and helpful and we were able to get in our room immediately - a real bonus after being up for 24 hours already with no sleep on the 14 1/2 hour flight. We got a deluxe queen double which overlooks the pool. It's a bit retro but it was very clean and the beds extremely comfortable. The rooms have a bar fridge, microwave, and a coffee machine (unfortunately American coffee is horribly weak). They also have a safe which is easy to use and plenty of storage with a double robe and six large drawers. There is also a table and 3 chairs (a bit weird as the room is for four).

The bathrooms again are slightly dated but very clean and the shower/bath is a plus for families with young kids.

The grounds are pretty and are kept immaculate. The pool outside our room is great and there is a cabana with loads of towels, as does Castaway Cove the water park near the front of the hotel where you can also view the nightly Disneyland fireworks.

There is also 3 large washing machines and 3 large dryers on the bottom floor of building 2 (I assume this is the same for all other buildings). There is also a games room and convenience store which is pricey compared to a supermarket but if you don't fancy walking 3 large blocks one way or catching the bus it's fine for the essentials.

Housekeeping are very efficient and caring and it was lovely returning to a clean room with made beds everyday. So thankyou to Maria and the housekeeping crew.

The free wifi is a saviour too and there are two Macs in reception which are free to use and you can print off tickets etc.

Now the conjecture re how close to Disneyland HoJo's is. Yes Disneyland is across the road but the main entrance is a 10 min stroll. Even the hotels across the road from the main entrance have a 4 min walk to the gates.

Only downside is there are no cooking facilities other than the microwave so you need to rely on nearby cafe's and take always which deliver. My suggestion to overcome this is to buy some salad stuff, cheese, meats, mayo and bread and have sandwiches for dinner and have your main meal at lunch in the parks.

Mimi's across the road is a nice spit for dinner, Millie's next to it has nice burgers and Tony Romas down past the Disneyland entrance is great for ribs. We ordered pizza in 3 times when we just could not be bothered going out - Marri's once which was ordinary, and Round Table twice which is excellent and was recommended by Art as this is who front desk calls when they want pizza.

I have loved our 2 weeks here and will be coming back.

We booked this room because of the Pirate pool for the kids. The room and pool areas were clean. The staff was friendly and quick to get us our room as soon as possible. Even after we checked out, when my son noticed that he had forgotten his sunglasses in the room ...the staff was more then helpful at going back to our room and called us when they found them. Awesome service! The BAD: The walk is about a 7 minute walk from DL which isn't bad until you've already had a long day of walking. We paid for the shuttle service. There is no continental breakfast or food service at all.

Room Tip: The firework view rooms are awesome. We ordered a pizza and watch the fireworks from the comfort of...

I was so excited to know that we were going to RIGHT across the street from Disneyland!! Traveling with an autistic child on his very first trip (13 y/o) I thought that the less walk we had would be great. It was the last hotel on the 'strip' before I-5. Website was very misleading on location. I was also very excited about the "water park"... First of all it's only open 10am-6pm, when we were at Disneyland. It looks very different in person and is much smaller than I expected. The actual pool is on the other side of one of the buildings...

Our premium room with view of park was just a view of the tip of the Matterhorn... The docor was very out dated as was the TV.

I will say that the beds were very comfortable and we didn't hear a lot of racket in the halls. Slept pretty good and the curtains kept the room pretty dark.

The game room is a fun little area and the little market was perfect and not too expensive!

Overall I am not sure I'd stay there again, but not truly unsatisfied!

STAFF IS AWESOME!!!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Howard Johnson.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is in a great location, in walking distance to the Main gates of Disneyland.

Although the furnishings in the room were abit outdated, it was clean and comfortable and great value for money.

I got this reservation on Hotwire. Had not stayed in a HoJo's in a long time and expected an old orange-roofed in. I was there on business at the Convention Center, and this was such a nice surprise! The lobby was very appealing, the pool area was adorable, and my room was clean, comfortable and had a nice balcony overlooking the garden. It definitely caters to families with young children, all of whom were playing happily in the pool - then going to bed early. So it was really quiet at night (except for the freeway but you can't have everything!) It was easily walkable to Disney and the Convention Center. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a good value and nice atmosphere.
