“Go the kids suite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2011

We stayed here in Late Sept early October and were on the 6th floor in a kids suite. We were warned about the noise from the fwy and when we walked into the room we were shocked at first, and then after 30 minutes we were used to it. We live in a small country town so are not used to traffic noise and it did not bother us one bit.

Location is excellent, close to everything.

The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The laundry facility is handy as we were there for 10 nights. The only things is there is no clothes line in the bathroom so bring some rope to tie up on the balcony to use as a line.

The kids loved their own room and tv and bathroom.

The king bed in our room was soooo comfortable.

The wi fi was handy but it was extremely slow on our floor and kept dropping out because we were on the 6th floor. It worked better down by the pool, but there are also 2 macs in reception and you can print out your boarding passes as well for free.

The microwave and fridge are handy as we made sandwiches and had breakfast in the room to save having restaurant food. We ate at Mimis quite a few times and it was quick and easy and we were able to get a nice salad.

We came to this hotel after spending 3 nights at the Disneyland hotel and we should have just stayed at ho jos as the kids loved this hotel and we loved the 2 rooms.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. For your info our children were aged 5 and 7 and didn't get tired walking to and from the hotel to Disneyland or Downtown Disney.

This hotel is fantastic for families. Decent sized rooms, cheap laundry, walking distance to Disney and the brilliant waterpark to cool off in! The hotel and rooms are a bit worn but the value for money is great. Would definitely recommend. And the staff were knowledgeable and helpful.

My Husband and I stayed here for 5 nights, and was very impresesed by our lodgings.
Room was very spacious and clean.
The only negitive we could find with the room was the furniture slighty out dated, and lack of microwave.
The WI-FI service was very hit and miss mostly miss.
The grounds and pool areas were fantastic the convience store in building 1 was a great bonus it sold everything from fresh fruit to milk to washing powder and souvienrs.
Disneyland Park Entrances were a 10minute stroll away as well as many fine places to eat.
There was a laundry which you could use 24hrs a day.
We would highly recommend this not only to people with children but to couples of all ages.
Will happily stay at the Howard Johnson again when visiting America again.

Room Tip: rooms in building 1 are good because the convience store and a laundry are located in building 1

We stayed at the Howard Johnson as part of a group tour for 8 nights in September. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little dated and quite "musty", but the beds were very comfortable. The pools are great for the kids, and the close proximity to Disneyland is a bonus.

Room Tip: Try to get a poolside room away from the freeway

We've made several trips to DL but this was our first staying at this property. It wasn't our first choice, but we had procrastinated and our preferred properties were booked. We read the reviews and saw that this was ranked #4, it was also within walking distance to the park (10 minutes), so we decided to Go Ho Jo.
There was just the two of us staying in this room. We have stayed in a wide range of hotels over the years, and this ranks as an average place to stay, but it also depends on what you are used to. All included we paid about $175 per night. Not inexpensive, but considering where we were, not out-of-this-world expensive either. The location is mostly a plus. The City of Anaheim (at Disney's behest I am sure) keeps this street very clean and safe. We walked home from the park at midnight twice and never felt unsafe.
The strengths:
The little water park plus a separate heated pool that was open until 10 p.m. A large room with a king bed, comfy with decent linens, a desk and table with two chairs, plus the usual dressers, etc. There was a good sized bathroom with tub/shower and double sinks (+). A flat screen TV with cable channels and HBO (pay-per-view movies were very expensive $10-$15 each), mini-fridge, microwave and coffee pot (it used a liquid coffee system which was only OK) ironing board and hair dryer. The shower was awesome with good pressure and lots of hot water, yay! I also liked that you had to use your room card to gain entry to the building as well as your room, nice for added security. The room was clean and the grounds were well-maintained.
The challenges:
The towels reminded me of gym towels. They did the job, but left much to be desired. The toiletries were 'Rusk' brand, watery and cheap. Some cracked tiles in the shower and a few other cosmetic issues that should have been repaired. The air/heating unit was in the wall under the window and did nothing to heat/cool the bathroom. No fan in bathroom either, so it got very steamy.
You'll have to heft your bags to your room and if you are staying in the far buildings don't expect there will be a luggage cart around. The rooms are not very sound-proof, so we heard the hallway and outdoor (pool) noise. Also, beware of the pool view rooms...you do get a view of the pool (whoopee) but you also get freeway traffic noise all day and night. Unless you love being lulled to sleep by the sound of 18-wheelers, don't stay in building 2. This is a large property and staying in #2 also adds another 5 minutes to your walk...do-able, but not welcome at the end of a long day. There's no restaurant at this property (so no room service, boo) but there is a Mimi's cafe close by and Millie's Cafe and Bakery which was very good. There's also a Mc D's that's open 24 hours on the way back from the park. There was a mini-mart on-site for picking up those forgotten items, but we did not visit it.
All in all this is an average place, but not what I'd consider a great value. I'd recommend it if you want a clean, no-frills place to stay and don't want to hassle with driving to and from the park. If you are looking for more creature comforts, keep looking and don't procrastinate!

Room Tip: Stay away from Building #2 if you don't want to hear (and feel) the freeway noise all night.

In the last 8 years we have stayed at the Hojo at least ten times...it is a lovely property...not the newest or fanciest but its always our 1st choice. Out experience has been that the rooms are clean, the beds are fine(after a day at the park it is great). It is a close walk 5 to 10 min walk depending on your walking speed. The grounds are landscaped nicely and the store is stocked with so much of the little things you need. the staff is helpful the last time we were there they arranged for our Universal studio tour and they sell park tickets at the front desk for Disneyland..The hotel rooms are equipped with coffee makers and a fridge. the rooms have little balconies that you can enjoy a morning cup of coffee before you hit the parks...

Like I said not the fanciest or newest...but We highly reccommend Hojo for your trip... we are going back and staying there at the end of the month cant wait..

Room Tip: We stay in the rooms that are in the four buildings in the middle (not in the towers) close to the p...
