On the way to San Diego we stayed overnight at Stovall's. Having arrived earlier that the check in time I was not optimistic at being give access to our room but was pleasantly surprised by the extremely warm and accommodating reception provided at the front desk. They allowed access to the room an hour early as it was ready. The receptionist was so helpful with information about the area, offering to organise a taxi for our train trip on the next day, etc. The room we were allocated was a little dated (1980's looking) but the beds were comfortable, and after a long flight that was what we were needing. The down side to the stay was the noise made by the vibrating lamp shades above the vanity area. This was remedied by inserting a small piece of folded paper under the lampshades. The air conditioner was a little old, not that effective and very noisy. We were glad that it was not a hot night as it could have been annoying if we had to use it all night. With all our luggage it was a bit tight in the room but acceptable. We were in a room not facing the road and about middle of the block and were surprised with the quietness of the unit.
Access to Disneyland could be made through the Grand California Hotel which saved the longish walk around the outside of the car park area.
Breakfast was a little bit of a "zoo" with the frequent comings and goings of families with young children. The selection was not that healthy overall but was consistent with other accommodation stayed at on our trip. There was plenty of food if you wanted to go back for second helpings. If you wanted something a little better the option of a Coco's next door gave a reasonable cost alternative. Buying in self prepared food was not an easy option if you did not have a car as there was a fair distance to any supermarket.
The swimming pools were spacious, warm and excellent and the topiary gardens quite cute. You did feel a little exposed to the traffic and passers by. Remember to wear something on your feet when going to and from your room as the seal can get quite warm and your feet can get very black.
On leaving the inn we were lucky to get the same receptionist and true to her word she promptly arranged transport for us.
After staying at other accommodation in the area at a higher cost I would be more tempted to stay here again than the other place.

We spent five days at Stovall with our 4 and 8 year old daughters. The room was emaculate. The service staff amazing. Great access to Disney for those who are up for a short hike but also great access to transit.

Kids loved the pool and the gardens.

Nicely renovated, clean, more than adequate FREE breakfast, great location. The only criticism I have is the rooms could use some more soundproofing

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel from the 13 to the 21st of February 2009. We are only 20yrs old and we were going down to visit Disneyland and have a relaxing break. I work as a travel consultant and I had done my research before going to this hotel. We definitely had a strict budget and this hotel was the perfect price, and I had heard great things about it.

We had a great time. We requested a room with one king bed, non smoking, and in the renovated part of the hotel. Half of the hotel had already been renovated and we were told that there was only one room with a king bed on that side of the hotel (we found that a little hard to believe) but we chose new over king bed and it was a great choice. The new rooms are beautiful, much better than we had expected. The big fluffy down comforter and huge soft mattress made for great naps when we came back for lunch with tired feet from all the walking at Disneyland. The bathroom was all new (toilet flush was so loud it scared me out of my socks almost every day!), marble counters, fridge and microwave worked out well also.

It was nice that breakfast was included at the hotel, since we were so cheap, it was messy and noisy in there in the mornings but you could grab some cereal and an apple and it did the trick. We walked to Disneyland/California Adventure every single day. The walk was very refreshing. We tried a few different routes but we found the best to be to walk towards the convention center and take the shortcut through the parking lot and from there you hop on the Timon Tram and it takes you straight to the main gates. Ten minutes walking only.

We had one day without a park pass so we asked the front desk if there were any local busses or shuttles we could take to go shopping. The girl was not very helpful at ALL and she tried to sell us a full day shopping tour which was more than $100. We politely said no and went back to the room and did some research. We found that there was a shuttle that left from a nearby hotel, very innexpensive, and took you to south coast plaza. It worked out very well.

Overall, this hotel is great if you aren't picky and if you are on a budget. The walls are thin and you can hear doors shutting etc, and the garbage truck one morning a week. If you aren't picky, you can let this go and enjoy your holiday.

I will send my clients to this hotel without thinking twice, great for families, great restaurants nearby.

I will return to this hotel without a second thought.

Well this was our second visit to Stovall's Inn. We were last there October 2007 & let me say that they have fully upgraded since then! We arrived late on a Thursday night being very tired. The girl @ the front desk checked us in very promptly & even changed our room to the opposite side of where there was a bunch of high school students staying. She said that we would be able to get a better nights rest. We were very appreciative!

When we arrive to our room (#547) I actually stopped before we went in because I was so thrown back by the unexpected upgrade since our last visit. It was a completely different hotel. I mean everything was new, from the walls to the curtains, to the chairs, to the bathroom counter top. Especially the beds!! We slept so perfectly comfortable. The beds are new pillowtop mattresses with big fluffy down comforters & nice brown accent pillows. The bathroom was even redone with the kind of shower curtain rods that are curved out that makes it feel like you're in a huge shower. Even the shower head was new.

The rooms come with a refrigerator & microwave, coffee maker with a good supply of lipton tea bags. There were two luggage stands. Brand new wardrobe closet which contained the iron & ironing board. Also two extra blankets. The only thing that I didn't like was that the phone wasn't right next to the beds. So when I ordered wake up calls in the morning I actually had to get up out of bed to pick up the phone (maybe that was point though! lol....)

Oh yeah & about the pools....Perfect with two big pools (one is cold & the other one is the perfect temp!), two hot tub saunas that are a very good size, & one kiddie pool. Beautiful topiary garden with lots of character shaped bushes that are nice kodak moments! (Sorry I haven't uploaded my vacation pictures yet to my computer).

And if you're visiting the area for Disneyland like we did, then I think this hotel is perfect if you're not gonna be directly across the street from the parks. Even though we had free parking through AAA for the parks, we actually walked the last night of our stay (also we walked during our first trip) and the walk is nothing!! If you walk in the direction of the convention center, just enter through the gate that takes you to the parking lot of disneyland & it's only about a 5 minute walk (more or less a few minutes) and the shuttle picks you up to go to the main entrance.

We started out our Disneyland adventures here at Stovall's Inn & we have decided that for every future trip we will be booking here! Oh yeah also the free breakfast is a great way to get started in the morning!!
