My 2 year old daughter and I went up to Disneyland for 2 days and I have to say, the hotel was PERFECT! All the staff I came across were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They were gracious and absolutely FABULOUS! We felt very comfortable. In fact, even the housekeeoing boiys on our floor were pleasant, even though they could speak much english. We were lucky enough to see the fireworks from our room. Even our swim in the pool was wonderful. I've worked for more than 10 years in customer service and I know great service when I see it.

We will be back FOR SURE!

We selected this hotel simply because of its convenient location--right across the street from the Anaheim Convention Center where we would be attending a 3-day conference. Our group booked a group of 14 rooms and were very pleasantly suprized by the service we received. Roshni Patel, the Sales and Meeting Events manager, was so helpful, always going out of her way to accomodate our needs and make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

We have traveled to Disneyland 4 times and have stayed at different places each time (Paradise Pier, Crown Plaza, Carousel Inn and the Desert Palm). The way I see it, you have 3 options when traveling to Disneyland:

1) Stay at a DL resort hotel
2) Stay way off site at and shuttle in
3) Stay at a hotel within walking distance

Here are the repercussions for each of the above:

1) You pay a lot of $, however you get what you pay for. CLEAN, excellant service and the little extras with staying at a DL resort. Well worth the extra money to be treated so well and to stay at such a clean resort.

2) While you can stay at a really nice hotel off site for a reasonable price, the shuttle is a total pain. You end up taking an hour to and hour and a half out of your day.

3) They all seem to be dumps. The close hotels were built a long time ago, and have had minor improvements. Their websites look GREAT, and when you get there you see what they are really like!

As far as the Desert Palms:

While the front desk staff was very nice and the lobby looked "okay", the rooms, beds, and cleanliness of the hotel were below standard. We were traveling with my two kids (11 & 7) as well as my niece and nephew (12 & 7) for a week at Disneyland. The hotel offered what we needed, a bed for everyone. However, the pull out bed in the kids area sunk in the middle and the two girls ended up balled up together everynight. There were stains on the carpet and nastiness in the corners of the bathroom. It is hard to imagine that this hotel was just remodled and updated a couple of years ago. It needs it all over again.

The breakfast is great if you do not mind your kids to get wired on sugar before they even step foot into Disneyland. The "free" breakfast consists of donuts, sugared cereal, sugar water that they call "juice" and toast. The only remotely healthy thing offered are hard boiled eggs, bananas and wheat bread.

The only positive is that there is a 7-11 right outside the hotel. You can stock up on stacks and water before you head to the park. They do not hassle you at all for bringing things in. However, BEWARE of the timeshare people on the corners. They will try anything to start a conversation with you - including talking to the kids "wow - that is a pretty shirt". Anything to get you trapped!!!!

Booked a Disney trip for our family of five during Valentine's day and the Desert Palms was a decent value for what we needed. We booked a mini-suite so our daughters could stay in the separate room with a pull out sofa while our son stayed in the second queen. The room was a bit small, but comfortable. It was in good condition overall, but one complaint was mediocre water pressure out of the shower head. It did include two TV's, coffee maker and a mini fridge that came in handy. The continental breakfast could be better. Cold cereal, oatmeal, toast and fruit (banana and oranges). The front desk staff was both friendly and helpful, and the parking was plentiful. There is a Quizno's inside the hotel which came in handy for a quick bite. One last note-while their web site claims they are the closest property to the park (they do back up to the parking lot for California Adventure), you do need to walk about a mile to get to the main entrance, so after a full day at the park(s), the walk back kind of sucks.

I was looking for something as close as possible to the Anaheim Convention Centre where I was attending a Trade Show. I had no clue where to stay having not been in the area for 20 years, I was just looking for something decent without getting into Sheraton, Hyatt type rates. The Hotel met my expectations exactly, very nice appearance, clean, above average lobby and what you'd expect for the room at the price. The front desk staff was very courteous and one person; " Sana" stood out especially. These places often fail to realize that the interacions with the Hotel staff over what might seem very trivial matters can often make or break the impression of the hotel. Not so here, the girl upgraded us to a little suite after our first night when she "thought" street noise in our booked room might be an issue. We graciously accepted of-course but had not even noticed any noise. I'm sure that being in the off-season and availability played a part but never the less, it was a smart move that put a smile on all our faces. My wife and daughter came along to do the Disney thing and we were all very pleased with the included breakfast which we found to be quite elaborate for a Continental Breakfast. Disney is a pleasant palm tree lined 10 minute walk from the Hotel and so that was also an unexpected bonus. Sana booked a trip for us to SeaWorld via V.I.P. Tours which I also recommend. She also helped us line up a shuttle to South Coast Plaza by taking a short walk to the Hilton which of-course has the numbers to provide shuttles to anywhere. That was $13 instead of a $60 cab ride. We also caught one to the Getty Villa!
The pool is probably what could most benefit from some primping, but again, it's up to date, clean and safely inside an inner courtyard. By all means if money was no object we'd have stayed at the Hyatt or the Hilton but for what we had to spend on this trip from eastern Canada, the value for cost, plus the excellent service received, made our stay at the Desert Palms a very pleasant one.
