“People Watching and Good Food.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Carthay Circle Restaurant/Lounge is situated right in the heart of California Adventure. A prime location with a classic swagger. You walk in and feel like you were transported to the boom of the 1920's and 30's. A quick departure from the hustle and bustle of tourism and screaming children this lounge has more to offer than just some fancy delicious concoctions. We chose to stay on the 1st floor and had some of the best small fare money could buy. We sat down in four of the most comfortable captain chairs around a nice sized table and our server recommended the Deviled Eggs, the Lamb Meatballs, the Lobster Pad Thai Imperial Roll and a Tequila Daisy to wash it all down. Each dish was perfectly crafted and packed with flavor. I intend to utilize my Premium Annual pass to frequent this treasure trove of flavors and hospitality in the near future.

“Excellent food with reserved seats for WOC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We truly enjoyed the food at this fine dining restaurant located in Disney's California Adventure. Beautiful decor and wonderful staff set the mood for special celebrations and seem to remove you from the bustle of the amusement park in which it sits. For dining here and ordering the magic combo of things (either an appetizer and entree or entree and dessert per person) you will receive reserved dining closer up to World of Color for the show at your choice of time. Very friendly staff. There is also a sitting room in the entry that allows for a nice brandy and conversation.

“Sophisticated Fare”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

Interesting, very tasty menu that was cooked perfectly. Wines are very reasonably priced. Smallish portions left this diner hungry after the meal. Kids loved the orecchiette dish, but the soba was way too spicy. One gripe was that it took a long time to get seated.

“Classy Park Dining and Bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013 via mobile

Another cool facade that once you get past the front entry looks like a Ritz(y) Hotel Lobby and Bar. As for that Bar they serve Martinis and Cocktails, small plates to accompany and the Restaurant has a more extensive Menu. Whoever thought a Manhattan--with trendyish Ice Sphere--
as part of your Park Hop was a good idea is either a bit off or maybe a bit brilliant.
Food is good-better than expected and a welcome option for a special occasion or just because you want to get the Park wide Churro smell out of your head.
Menu is interesting and eclectic and a less aspirational version of Napa Rose (same Chef).

“Splurge here for a great grown-up dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Carthay Circle was a wonderful surprise for my us! My husband and I booked it for dinner to take advantage of the bonus "World of Color" special standing area, but honestly could have cared less about that perk after enjoying some of the best food we've ever had in Orange County. Children are welcome, as it is Disney, and they have a children's menu. We saw several families, but really if you can get away with a loved one or a couple of friends, this is the place.

Yes, it's pricey, but seriously, entrees are in the mid-$20 to low $30 range, which is not huge for upscale cuisine. It's so worth it if you love great food prepared by a chef that knows how to creatively pair taste, texture and presentation of a dish.

You have to have a ticket to California Adventure park to dine here. Good side to that, you can wear jeans if you want, there really seems to be no dress code, but you'll want to look nice for the occasion. The bar is downstairs, dinner up. We had 6:30 reservations and had time to order and begin drinking a cocktail before being seated at 6:45. The dining area is lovely -- remember it's Disney, so it is a bit brighter than a regular restaurant. The kitchen is in full view for many seats but we didn't think this was a problem.

Food -- seasonal menu. We both ordered salads and an entree. Husband had the apple salad and I had the warm beet and gorgonzola salad. Both were amazing as they had seasonal items accompanying the dish. Entrees -- husband had the pot roast and I had the short rib ravioli with butternut squash puree. All were seriously delicious. These are not huge plates. They are smaller dinner plates (pot roast excepted!), meant to be savored, not scarfed. We skipped dessert as it didn't look quite as interesting.

Drinks -- unbelievable wine list. Fun, too, as their house wines are from Disney related folks who are/were vintners on the side (Fess Parker Chardonnay, John Lassiter's Merlot . . . they probably have a MacMurray red on the list as well). These are serious wineries and are available at great prices. There are so many other wines . . . wow, wish I could have had some during Lent! Anyway, husband enjoyed a few glasses of their whiskeys/ bourbons.

The deal with the World of Color is that Carthay restaurant folks ask you to order two courses -- they say main course and an appetizer or dessert, but you can do a main course and a salad if you want. Reciprocity is all they ask. They do offer an amazing-looking tasting menu (3 courses) for $60.

We will be back! We were so impressed with the quality of the food at California Adventure Park -- the food quality has always been the bar for us at Disneyland and that issue has now been blown away. You can find amazing, healthy food at the park at every price level. If you can make time for a special evening, please visit Carthay Circle.

This is a great get-away in the middle of the park. BTW, we did go to World of Color, Carthay has one of the closest viewing areas -- so close that we were sprayed with too much water and left early! It's a great show and is a wonderful way to end a magical evening.
