“The first of Anaheim's gentrification”

Dontown Anaheim is coming to life! A lot of thought went into the design of this establishment. Besides that, the beer is delicious. It's a nice pit stop to visit for a thirst quenching brewski.

“Back to its Roots”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

The Anaheim Brewery opened in an old Packard automobile showroom in downtown Anaheim, next to where a food court is being developed in what was a former packing plant, that we hope will become much like Oxbow Public Market in Napa. The brewery serves a limited variety of high quality microbrews in a clean, comfortable, and friendly setting. You can sit in the tasting room or on a nice day, take your refreshment at one of the outside authentic German beer garden tables. The owners/brewers Barbara and Greg are a constant presence in the tasting room. They developed a “passion” for beer while living a number of years in Bavaria which eventually led them to establish the Anaheim Brewery. As its name implies, this is a brewery, not a brewpub. If you want food with your brew, they do allow customers to bring in food from the outside. And, within a few months, a highly regarded Los Angeles small chain specialty restaurant, Umami Burger, is moving into the front half of the building, which should make for a better quality meal than your usual fast food. The focus here, however, is all on the beer and it pays off in the taste. Barbara and Greg are working hard to insure that anyone who visits their tasting room will become a “regular.” This is not a tourist trap. It’s a neighborhood place where locals and visitors who appreciate fine brews will feel welcome and satisfied that they stopped in.
As Anaheim “locals” for almost twenty years, we applaud what Barbara and Greg have brought to the historic district a.k.a Colony in Anaheim.
Since it’s about the beer. The Anaheim Brewery usually has four “fresh and local” brews on tap and occasionally rotate in a specialty brew. You’ll usually find the Anaheim 1888, Anaheim Gold, Anaheim Red and Anaheim Hefeweizen. On our last visit there a couple of weeks ago, we were able to enjoy a chocolate stout (very subtle and well-balanced – not too in your face). Beers are also available to take home in bottles and in the very popular refillable and economic Growler.
At present, the brewery offers service on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is soon planning to open on Tuesday evenings. It is a nice “adult” alternative to the local Disney attractions, and shows a side of Anaheim that many have forgotten or never even knew existed.
