We just returned from our vacation to Anaheim last week and one of the highlights was the OC Beach Bus Tour that we took on the red Woody bus. It was alot of fun and since we did not have a car, a great and reasonable cost way to see three beautiful Pacific coast beaches and towns in one day. We booked the tour through our travel agent and the Walt Disney Travel Company. We received vouchers in our vacation packet from Disney for the tour and all we had to do was call 48 hours in advance to reserve the time and day for our tour. It was very easy and the bus picked us right up in front of our hotel at 8:40 the morning of the tour.
The tour guide we had was very pleasant and polite during the entire tour. He also gave us alot of
great info about all the beaches and towns we visited and gave us a reasonable amount of time to visit each of the three beaches on the tour: Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach.
The only thing that would make this tour better, that I could suggest, would be to have some kind of brochure or written handout sheet with helpful information about each of the beaches to refer to during the tour. Although our driver was very good about verbally telling us details and points of interest about each of the beaches and towns that we stopped at, it was hard sometimes to remember it all once we got off the bus and wanted to know where to find food, restrooms, stores, or points of interest on each of the beaches. Having something written to refer back to would have helped tremendously.
The beach and town we liked the best was Laguna Beach. The beach is unusual with its cliffs rocks and tide pools...very picturesque. The town is very cute too, with lots of places to visit. Hightlights in the town included: The Laguna Pharmacy which is kind of an old-fashioned type store with drug store items plus gift items; Chantilly by the Sea Ice Cream store which has an amazing chocolate, caramel and nuts sundae; The Candy Baron which has every kind of candy from today and the past that you could ever desire; and an amazing Dr. Seuss art exhibit that we happened upon with beautiful original works and his private collection of hats....apparently he had a home in Laguna Beach at one time! There is a public single stall restroom in the Village Mart on the main corner in the town, which was good since there are no bathrooms on the bus and this was the drop off and pick up spot for our tour. The town also has a Whole Foods store if you need food items, which several people on our tour did, since alot of us didn't have cars while on vacation.
Other things to note about the tour, is that Newport Beach had a very nice harbor to view boats, a ferris wheel, and walking and bike path. You can also take a harbor cruise here for an additional cost, though we choose not to since we didn't feel we really had enough time to do so without feeling rushed. Huntington Beach has a nice pier and concrete sitting area. There are also some nice shops in the town, though we spent the least amount of time at this beach since it was our first stop and we choose to continue on to the next beach so we could see all three of the beaches on the tour. There are tons of surfers here and they were fun to watch from the pier.
The tour lasted the whole day, and we did not get back to our hotel in Anaheim until around 5:30 in the evening.
I would definitely recommend this tour...we really enjoyed the day visiting all these beautiful Pacific coast beaches and towns...each unique in their own way!
