“Ideal access to California adventure park and downtown Disney”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013 via mobile

Expensive accommodation room small for family of five . Staff extremely friendly and helpful. early access into theme park as part of our stay only way to go if you want to get on some rides. Pool area looked nice but sadly weather did not permit use. Handy access also to downtown Disney. Lobby area of hotel looks amazing.

Reading reviews before making reservations, it was clear to me that just because you are spending $500 per night, you should not expect a luxurious room or amazing service. We decided to stay here ONLY to be close to the parks because we were taking our 2 year old for her first visit. What I was not expecting was a filthy room exhibiting a complete lack of maintenance. I will upload pics from room 3113 - filthy air vents in the bathroom and sleeping area as well as a broken sink and the sink plunger's missing cap. I did get a massage one afternoon while Daddy and baby took a nap... the service itself was ok but the locker room/lounge left a lot to be desired. There is no pool or whirlpool only a sauna and steam room. The locker area is tiny so you have to wait your turn to change clothes. The showers were plain and more reminiscent of the YMCA than a "spa". Wouldn't spend $150 there again...

Disney's Grand Californian Hotel is wonderful. The staff is fantastic, and they are really focused on service. The location is perfect for both parks and Downtown Disney. All of their restaurants are fantastic. The pool is nice. Bar staff is very friendly and the food at the bar is really good. I've stayed here three times, and everytime, the staff has gone above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Yes, you definetly pay a premium to stay here and it is well worth it. You can stay in less expensive hotels, your experience will be very different.

Room Tip: if possible, get a downtown disney view.

We recently spent one night at the Grand Californian Hotel and it was a great night!! They said check in was at 3pm but you can tell them you're coming earlier and if they have a room available they will check you in early. I had requested a king room but at the time of check in they just had two queens, which was fine. We actually didn't realize how big the hotel was until we had to walk to our room. lol There were so many turns and twists!! I suggest if you do stay and are not wanting to walk, request a room that's closer to the lobby. Our room was really nice and it had a nice TV and a DVD player in it. (So if you're coming with kids you have the option of bringing Disney movies along) Anyway, we had a view of Downtown Disney and could see Space Mountain and the train station. We also could see Soarin' in DCA and the "bear mountain." The beds were SO COMFORTABLE!! There were tons of pillows and I seriously have not slept so well in quite a while. The balcony was very spacious (narrow not deep). There were three different pools in the pool area which was nice because if one is busy, move on to the next. It also had one hot tub out there too. The chairs by the pool looked like couches! They were brown fabric and looked very comfortable. (I did not sit on them so I don't know if they were or not) They also had guys serving drinks, which is very nice. It was great being so close to Downtown Disney too. We walked around after having dinner at Napa Rose (amazing dinner). They had live music, tons of stores, lots of places to eat.
Overall this place is amazing and does feel very grand. It is pricey, but after spending a long day at the park and everyone is tired it is great to just walk a few feet and be close to a nice, comfortable bed to crash on.

Room Tip: We had a standard room and still had a great view, although we were very far from the lobby.

You will pay a very hefty premium what is really a very average room in this hotel. Yes, they have "Grand" appointments all around you to make you feel "Grand", but for the price of one night here you could have a night AND your park admission across the street at any number of hotels (plus free breakfast for your family). The room appointments are the same as any hotel (okay, some of the light switches are sliders....wow), and you cannot sit and see anything off the balcony because of the height of the railing...you have to stand up.

If you are a Disney fanatic who cries when they step on the grounds, then this place is for you. If you want a sensible hotel value there are better options.

Room Tip: We paid a premium for a downtown disney view room. Be prepared to listen to that obnoxious Josh-Gobi...

The resort hotel is first class in terms of staff. The structure itself is a sight to behold inside. Also highly recommend its flagship restaurant the Napa Rose. Wonderful meal! The only drawback are the rooms which are fairly simply and "motel-like" in appearance. Love the easy access to Downtown Disney which allowed our teenage sons ease with coming and going.

We stayed at the Grand Californian six nights in February as part of a Disney package. It's a decent hotel in a fantastic location. But it has abysmal service in the bar. One of the bar tenders had to come out herself to save us from being ignored by the wait staff. Otherwise, our high expectations were met. Ease of Park access made the room price a decent value for us to celebrate my wife's birthday treat.

Room Tip: Ours overlooked the pool and we were very happy. We would have been much less so in a room facing ou...
