Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

This hotel is beautiful. The lobby is stunning. The rooms very comfortable. We were amazed at how sound proof the sliding glass door was despite the fact that California Adventure park was just outside--with the door closed you'd have never guessed that there was a theme park just a few feet away! The location can't be beat--walk right into California Adventure or Downtown Disney. My family would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A little pricy but a great experience for the family. Great location, early entry perks into Disneyland, family friendly swimming pools, proximity to "Downtown Disney" (appreciated this more than I expected) all made the stay very fun. I might ding it a little for value and a below average workout room but I will definitely stay here again the next time we go to Disney.

We've previously stayed at the Disneyland hotel, and splurged on the closer to entrance location and arts and crafts styling of the Grand Californian. The location and early access to The parks can't be beat. The lobby and restaurants are gorgeous. The room itself is very standard...very clean but slightly worn. We loved the pool area, and the fireplace area. Went to Target ($13 round-trip from the hotel) and got milk, salads, cereal etc) and probably saved the additional cost of the hotel in breakfasts/lunches we came back to our room for.

Again, our stay at the Grand Californian was a pleasant and restful one. I didn't hear one door slam, loud talking, kids screaming and running in the hallway! The beds/linens are the best, the room was larger than a regular "motel" nicely decorated, with two sinks in the dressing area. A sliding door opens for fresh air, a lovely garden with a bit of Disney California in the background. Service, if needed, is impecable, staff right there for your needs/wants. The huge lobby reminded me of the Ahwanee in Yosemite, large, comfortable and welcoming. We later went to sit by the fire in comfortable chairs and couch and listened to the piano being played. It IS pricey, there is no getting around that, but allows easy access into Disneyland/Downtown Disney & Disney's California. The Storyteller has an ample buffet, and kids can order from a menu instead of paying the price of the buffet. All of the food served there was delicious and a good variety. Another plus is, if you purchase something in Disneyland, you can have it delivered to the Grand hotel. Then you can be picked up at the service desk OR ask for it to be delivered to your room. Another perk; we got an hour early access into Disneyland and California. There were six of us and we had adjoining rooms, which made for eaiser visits. Also we didn't have to cross any busy streets with traffic.

First of all the room: we had a double queen bed room with balcony that overlooked the pool area. Really nice craftsman decor in rooms and throughout the hotel. Robes to borrow in closet, really comfortable beds and nice sheets. Many lights throughout room, turndown service to make the beds nice and cozy before bedtime. They give you a few tiny freebies for the kiddos too like a postcard, chocolate coins on the pillows, a tree planting kit. There's a little store inside, free wifi, nice lobby and common areas, and three pools, including one with a slide. They close about 10pm so you won't have much time after your DIsney parks visits to get a swim or hot tub time in.

Now for its Disney connections: The hotel is connected to an entrance to California Adventure. Be sure to take advantage of the one hour early park entrance. To get in from that entrance be sure to arrive well before the early opening time as there are MANY people who will be in line, you don't just walk up and walk into the park, there are always lines at Disney :) It's also really close to the Disneyland entrance and Downtown Disney.

Room Tip: Fun to have a view onto pool and parks.

It was a super location - in California Adventure as it turned out. I had no idea that we could walk out a door and be in the park! Wow. The hotel is beautiful and you would have no idea you were literally next door to Disneyland and had California Adventure in the backyard. The room was very comfortable and quiet - and the free guest wireless worked wonderfully for us. I hope to go back and stay longer!

Room Tip: I would think rooms on the side where the park is can have great views of Wonderful World of Color a...

When I booked this hotel I imagined I would be leaving a 5 star review, so am disappointed that this review has only 4 stars. To be honest I wanted to rate it 3.5, but gave them the extra half star as its Disney!
I have never stayed in a Disney hotel before so was super excited. We booked for two nights over halloween, and there were 3 adults and 2 children in our party. We had requested two rooms. We arrived at 8am and were greeted with lots of smiles and hellos. The lobby area is beautiful, but slightly disappointing that there was no real sign of anything Disney. We were able to check in to our rooms straight away which was a plus, and they had given us adjoining rooms which was nice.
For the price we paid I was not impressed with the rooms, but hey its Disney - you pay $$$. The rooms were very basic and again other than a few Mickey logos on the carpet and Bambi on the shower curtain there was no sign of anything Disney. The rooms were also quite small I felt.
I guess the bottom line is if you come to Disney you don't spend a lot of time in your room, so it doesnt need to be spectacular.
The best part was the fact it was so close to Disney, it took us less than 5 mins to get from our room into California Adventure Park, and just under 10 mins into Disneyland. We also found it very handy being able to go in for the extra hour early in the morning to avoid the lines.
During the day all the staff members seemed very friendly and always said hi, but when we came back after 11pm, I noticed they didn't even acknowledge you when you walked past them - maybe they had run out of Disney magic!!
I used guest services once and they were very helpful. The children used the pool and said it was great, the gift shop staff were very friendly, didn't dine in the restaurants in the hotel.
Nearly forgot I did love the Disney chocolates waiting in our room each evening as part of the turn down service.
If I went back I probably wouldn't stay here again, unless it was heavily discounted, I would probably try one of the other Disney hotels.
